Google Pixel Notepad: Leak promises low starting price

The announcement of Google’s first foldable smartphone at the unveiling of the Pixel 6 failed to materialize, contrary to the expectations of all Google followers. Now there is a new leak about the device, which is supposed to be called Google Pixel Notepad. It talks about a low entry price – at least compared to the big competitor Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Google Pixel Notepad: This is how expensive the foldable is supposed to turn out

The Google Pixel Notepad, formerly known as the Pixel Fold, still hasn’t been officially confirmed or announced, but that doesn’t stop leakers from circulating information about the foldable smartphone.

This time it is the renowned Google news site 9to5Google that spreads information about the price of the Google Pixel Notepad. The device, which Google is supposed to position as a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 on the market, is supposed to be offered at a (at least comparatively) lower price.

Referring to two independent sources that are said to be familiar with Google’s plans, 9to5Google talks about a price of $1,400 for the Pixel Notepad. That would at least be significantly cheaper than its Samsung counterpart, which launched in August 2021 starting at a price of 1,799 euros.

What does the Google Pixel Notepad look like?

According to other leaks, however, the Google Pixel Notepad is supposed to be based more on the Oppo Find N foldable smartphone in terms of design than on the GalaxyZ Fold 3. In terms of the form factor, Google, just like Oppo, is supposed to go for a short and wide design rather than a particularly narrow and long display as in Samsung’s case.

The Oppo Find N is 132.6 mm long and 140.2 mm wide, while the display has a diagonal of 7.10 inches when unfolded. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, on the other hand, is 158.2 mm long and only 128.1 mm wide with a 7.60-inch display.

However, the Google Pixel Notepad is supposed to be saved primarily in terms of the camera. According to rumors, the foldable will not rely on the powerful setup that wowed us in the review of the Google Pixel 6 Pro.

Instead, the 12.2-megapixel Sony IMX363 sensor, which Google had already used in the Pixel 3, Pixel 4 and Pixel 5a, is to be used. It is to be supported by an IMX386 with a resolution of 12 megapixels as an ultra-wide-angle camera. The 8-megapixel selfie camera (Sony IMX355) also confirms the savings course in the camera equipment.

At least the Google Tensor Chip known from the Pixel 6 is supposed to work inside. Further rumors speak of a 7.6-inch display with a variable frame rate of up to 120 Hz. The Android 12L, which was specially developed for foldables, is also said to be used at the factory. According to rumors, the Google Pixel Notepad will finally be presented and released in the course of 2022.
