GoPro Hero 10 Black: New action cam with top specs and GP2 processor available

After the feature list of the GoPro Hero 10 Black action cam had already revealed almost all details in advance, the manufacturer has now officially unveiled the new model. In fact, most of the pre-released details have actually come true – including the significantly increased price compared to its predecessor.

What’s inside the GoPro Hero 10 Black

In terms of design, the GoPro Hero 10 Black has changed minimally in direct comparison to last year’s Hero 9. Nevertheless, there is a positive news, because all accessories can still be used with the new model. Apart from the blue accentuated manufacturer logo on the action cam, very little has changed, and the battery capacity is the same as that of the predecessor.

Where a lot has changed, however, is under the hood. GoPro is finally retiring the GP1 processor from 2017. Its successor is the brand-new GP2 chipset, which not only allows for a higher frame rate (framerate), but also easier and more intuitive operation.

Thus, the GoPro Hero 10 Black is able to record videos in 5.3K resolution at up to 60 FPS. And that’s even with the HyperSmooth 4.0 stabilization system enabled. This also takes effect in slow-motion recording in 4K at 120 FPS as well as at 2.7K with up to 240 frames per second – so eightfold super slow-motion recording is something the Hero 10 Black can handle.

According to GoPro, however, the new GP2 processor should also provide better 3D noise reduction and Local Tone Mapping, resulting in better contrast, more realistic textures and visibly more detail in the image in low-light conditions. However, the GP2’s significantly increased performance should also allow for smoother touchscreen operation.

Interchangeable Lens Covers

Also exciting are the interchangeable covers for the lens (known as lens covers). These have now been provided with water-repellent and reflection-reducing coatings on the GoPro Hero 10 Black. Since this can effectively counteract lens flares and other artifacts, it results in improved image quality.

In addition, a new 23 megapixel sensor is used (3 MP more than the predecessor). In addition, there are many exciting features that distance the GoPro Hero 10 Black from its original field of application as a classic action cam.

Improved livestreaming features make the small camera a strong vlogging tool, as well as an ideal companion in (home) office use when in webcam mode. Streamers who fall back on the Hero 10 Black will also be pleased with an improved front display. Live streaming is possible in 1080p resolution, and HyperSmooth 4.0 stabilization also kicks in here.

Price and availability

The GoPro Hero 10 Black is available now at an MSRP of 529.00 euros. The package includes a case, the 1,720 mAh battery, a base mount kit and a USB cable. Alternatively, several bundles are also offered:

On the manufacturer’s website, there is also the option of purchasing the Hero 10 Black together with the GoPro annual subscription. This includes, among other things, unlimited cloud storage, insurance including camera replacement and much more. At the start, there is an introductory discount of 150 euros, which means that the action cam can ultimately be purchased for 429.98 euros.
