grell TWS/1: First true-wireless in-ears from former Sennheiser engineer unveiled

Former Sennheiser engineer Axel Grell has presented the first in-ear headphones from his new company, the grell TWS/1. With modern specifications and a noble design, the company wants to outrun the top dog in the future with the true wireless earbuds. In any case, a look at the data already makes you want more.

Crystal clear, neutral sound

The grell TWS/1 marks the debut of a brand-new true-wireless headphone series from the brand founded by renowned German headphone developer Axel Grell. Said to have crystal clear, natural sound, they rely on a unique combination of high quality technology components, German design and meticulous attention to detail. This is how they aim to achieve stunning audio characteristics created specifically for the new generation of digital-oriented users.

They rely on newly developed 10 mm dynamic drivers that cover a comparatively high frequency range of 6 Hz-22 kHz. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, the grell TWS/1 convince with a stable connection at a distance of around 50 meters. They are splash-proof according to IPX4 standard and should last for around 28 hours in combination with the charging case (5 hours runtime for the Earbuds with deactivated ANC is promised by the manufacturer).

Codecs, operation and ANC

In terms of Bluetooth codecs, the grell TWS/1 are also extremely varied. In addition to SBC, AAC, Qualcomm aptX and LHDC, Qualcomm aptX HD and Qualcomm aptX™ adaptive are also supported.

The TWS in-ears are operated via touch gestures on the outside. For settings, they offer their own companion app, which is free to download on iOS and Android. It also allows personalizing the sound via SoundID. A multipoint support for the simultaneous connection of multiple audio sources is also supposed to be added via a firmware update after release.

In addition, the TWS/1 have an innovative active noise cancellation (ANC), which relies on the “Noise Annoyance Reduction (NAR)” technology. It has been specially patented by the manufacturer and is said to effectively filter out frequency ranges where other manufacturers fail.

When it comes to telephony, the in-ears are also supposed to provide clear voice reproduction. Qualcomm’s cVc Noise Cancellation technology is used here to reduce loud wind noise, for example.
