Harley-Davidson subsidiary Livewire comes to Europe with e-motor

Uncompromising combustion technology on two wheels – that’s what the traditional US brand Harley-Davidson stands for. But in the age of the energy transition, this manufacturer is also looking to switch to electrically powered motorcycles. The company’s own Livewire brand is making a start on the European market. The brand for e-motorcycles is soon to make its mark on our streetscape, too.

Livewire One electrifies on two wheels

The Livewire One is to make the beginning in the European offensive of the Harley Davidson brand. Here, European customers will probably also be able to enjoy the technology that U.S. buyers are already using. This means that the Livewire One is supposed to come with a 15.4 kWh battery, which makes a range of 235 km possible. According to the manufacturer, that’s at least for city driving.

If things speed up on the country road or highway, the range should probably also melt away correspondingly quickly. Consequently, the combined consumption also corresponds to 153 km, which is still a pretty good value. Livewire does not yet give any firm information about speeds. You can only take a look at the 2019 version here. This one managed 177 km/h at the top thanks to its 78 kW e-motor. The Livewire One for Europe will probably also be able to achieve this performance.

Second announcement is exclusive to the U.S.

Apparently, Livewire seems to stay true to its trend of offering its two-wheelers only in its home country for now. While with the Livewire One namely an E-motorcycle finds its way on European roads, the new Livewire S2 Del Mar is to be bought for the time being only in the United States. There, the motorcycle, which was already presented in May 2022, will be launched in the second half of 2023. The bodywork of the S2 Del Mar is particularly exciting. This uses the battery itself as a load-bearing component of the entire motorcycle. It is thus accommodated in a space-saving manner and in a sense merges with the machine.

In terms of performance, however, the new announcement is positioned below the Livewire One. The electric motor, for example, offers significantly less power at 60 kW. The capacity of the battery is also likely to be significantly lower. After all, the S2 Del Mar is supposed to be able to cover just 160 km in the city. But in view of the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, many motorcycle fans will be happy to accept this. After all, this impressive acceleration certainly results from the low weight of the e-motorcycle.

Price and availability

The Livewire One is scheduled to be delivered to European customers as early as April 2023. Anyone interested in one of the promising machines with an electric motor will be able to reserve it for a fee of 100 euros. For the basic version, the Harley-Davidson brand is asking 24,990.00 euros. With the Livewire S2 Del Mar, however, there are clearly more question marks in the room. So we do not know when and whether this comes to Europe at all.
