The manufacturer of intelligent thermal imaging technology HIKMICRO is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a technological innovation: the AI-supported SuperScene Mode. The function is designed to significantly simplify thermal imaging inspections and enable both professionals from the trade and ambitious DIY enthusiasts to carry out faster and more precise analyses.

From thermal imaging to immediate diagnosis

For years, thermal imaging cameras have been a valuable tool for revealing hidden problems in buildings or technical systems – such as water leaks, heat loss or electrical faults. However, the correct interpretation of the images has often required specialist knowledge and experience. With the new SuperScene Mode, HIKMICRO aims to lower this hurdle. The technology uses artificial intelligence to automatically analyze thermal data and translate it into specific recommendations for action.

Users not only receive a thermal image, but also directly interpretable results. “Our vision from the outset was to bring thermal imaging technology out of the niche and into the mass market, making it smarter and more accessible,” explains Stefan Li, Overseas General Manager at HIKMICRO. “SuperScene™ Mode is the next step in this development: the experience of professionals is integrated directly into the device.”

Two levels for more efficiency

The new mode is based on a two-tier architecture:

Expert Presets – “See like an expert”

Predefined scene profiles automatically adapt the camera settings to typical inspection situations. These include, among others:

  • Water leak detection
  • Insulation inspection
  • Underfloor heating
  • Electrical systems
  • Solar modules
  • Macro inspections

This eliminates the need for manual adjustments and the camera immediately delivers optimized images for the respective application.

Smart SuperScene – “Think like an expert”

At the second level, an AI analyzes the thermal images and automatically detects anomalies. In scenarios such as water leaks, insulation problems or underfloor heating, potential problem areas are marked directly in the image.
This turns a pure temperature image into a comprehensible diagnosis – faster and more consistent than a purely manual evaluation.

Practical feedback from thermography

The first users are already reporting clear benefits. Certified thermographer Aleksandar Stojanović explains: “The visual cues, such as markings for anomalies, are very clear and effective. They speed up the inspection and make it easier to communicate results clearly.”

AI learns from real operational data

Since the company was founded, HIKMICRO has worked closely with specialists from various trades – including electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians and energy consultants. The AI in the SuperScene system is based on thousands of real-life use cases. The system combines thermal data with visible light to better understand the environment.

For example, an anomaly is only reported as a leak if both the temperature pattern and the detected scene are plausible. According to the manufacturer, this has reduced the number of false alarms from around 90 % to almost zero, while detection accuracy has increased by 61 %.

Real-time analysis directly on the device

Another advantage: the analysis takes place entirely on the device itself. No cloud connection is required, meaning results are available without delay and data protection concerns are eliminated. The SuperScene™ mode is already available on selected models of the Eco, B and Pocket series thermal imaging cameras.

A look into the future

HIKMICRO plans to further expand its AI functions in the future. Additional areas of application such as solar inspections or diagnostics in the automotive sector are conceivable. With the new technology, the company wants to take a further step towards intuitive thermal imaging technology that is accessible to everyone – a fitting milestone for its tenth anniversary.
