Athom has released Homey as an official ChatGPT app. This allows you to control your smart home directly via ChatGPT – without any prior technical knowledge or manual setup. Anyone using Homey can control devices, create automations and customize their setup simply by entering text. This makes the integration particularly interesting for beginners who have previously avoided complex automation logic.

Homey in ChatGPT: How the integration works
Athom had already introduced its MCP server at the beginning of 2025, which enabled AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude to interact with Homey. The key difference with the new app is that users previously had to set up the MCP connector manually in ChatGPT – a step that required technical understanding and put many people off. The new ChatGPT app makes this obsolete. A single click connects the Homey account with ChatGPT, after which the integration is immediately ready for use.
Once connected, a whole range of actions can be carried out via ChatGPT: Query device status, switch devices on or off, start flows and advanced flows, activate moods, rename devices or move them to another zone. If you want to create new automations, you can use ChatGPT as a wizard – instead of manually navigating through all the available cards, a simple description of the desired process is sufficient. ChatGPT then guides you through the creation process and also helps you customize existing flows.
Smart everyday life without specialist knowledge
Athom CEO Stefan Witkamp sums up the philosophy behind the integration: “The easier it is to control the smart home, the more useful it becomes in everyday life. For all those who have already integrated Homey manually via MCP, nothing will change. The MCP server at mcp.athom.com remains active and is also supported by other AI agents such as Claude. Existing setups will continue to run without any adjustments.

The Homey app for ChatGPT is available immediately and works with all current Homey platforms: Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini and Homey Self-Hosted Server. Athom does not provide pricing details for the app itself – an active Homey account and ChatGPT access are required to use it.
