Honor 70: Mid-range smartphone comes with strong cameras

The manufacturer Honor has unveiled its new smartphone series that succeeds the Honor 60 models. Unsurprisingly, it is called Honor 70 and already features exciting specifications in the standard model. First and foremost, a 54-megapixel main camera and a 120 Hz fast AMOLED display.

The Honor 70 in detail

Although the Honor 70 is the weakest model in the smartphone series, the mid-range device has a lot going for it. The smartphone is 161.4 mm long, 73.3 mm wide, 7.91 mm thick and weighs around 178 grams.

The manufacturer installs a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The 8-core CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ is used as the SoC, which consists of four fast ARM Cortex-A78 cores (1x 2.5 GHz, 3x 2.4 GHz) and four frugal Cortex-A55 cores (1.8 GHz).

It is supported by 8 GB or 12 GB of working memory, which Honor combines with 256 GB or 512 GB of system storage. The Honor 70 uses the Adreno 642L as GPU. Honor uses Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12 as the operating system.

The battery capacity is 4,800 mAh, and fast charging is possible with a maximum of 66 watts. However, this is only possible via USB Type-C. The 70 also supports 5G, WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. The fingerprint sensor is installed directly in the screen.

Strong camera setup in the Honor 70

Honor once again focuses on the camera setup of the smartphone. On the back, the 70 relies on three cameras, which consist of its 54-megapixel main camera including a new Sony IMX800 sensor in 1/1.49-inch format (f/1.9 aperture), as well as a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2 aperture) including macro mode and a 2 MP depth-of-field sensor (f/2.4 aperture). Videos can be recorded in 4K resolution including EIS image stabilization.

On the front, you’ll find a 32-megapixel AI main camera with an aperture of f/2.4 complete with face detection, portrait mode, filters and many other photo modes.

Price and Availability

The Honor 70 is currently already available for pre-order in China. There, the smartphone, which is available in four colors, starts at 2,699 yuan, which is the equivalent of about 377 euros. The top model with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of system storage will be priced at 3,399 yuan (about 474 euros). Honor has not yet mentioned details about the release and the prices for the European market.
