Honor 70 Pro and Pro+: smartphones with Sony IMX800 triple camera unveiled

The manufacturer provides two stronger siblings for the low-priced 70 in the form of the Honor 70 Pro and Pro+. Here, Honor relies on chips from MediaTek, a huge 120 Hz AMOLED display and a triple camera based on the new Sony IMX800 sensor.

Honor 70 Pro and Pro+ officially unveiled

In terms of design, the new Honor 70 Pro and Pro+ smartphones seem like a mix of the manufacturer’s 50 and 60 model generation. The display is rounded on both sides with a diagonal of 6.78 inches and an aspect ratio of 19.8:9.

The screen is an LTPO ANOLED panel with a resolution of 2,652 x 1,200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Both smartphones come with dimensions of 163.9 mm x 74.6 mm x 8.18 mm (length x width x depth) and weigh around 192 grams.

The biggest difference between Honor 70 Pro and Pro+ can be found in the installed chip. While the eight-core CPU MediaTek Dimensity 8000 (4x Cortex-A78 with 2.75 GHz + 4x Cortex-A55 with 2.0 GHz) does its job in the Pro, the faster MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is used in the Pro+. Here, the SoC combines a particularly fast Cortex-X2 computing core with a clock rate of 3.05 GHz with three Cortex-A710 cores (2.85 GHz) and four Cortex-A510 (1.8 GHz).

At the same time, the Pro+ model also offers better graphics performance thanks to the Mali G710 GPU (compared with the G610 in the Honor 70 Pro). Depending on the features, the Pro+ comes with 8 GB or 12 GB of working memory and 256 GB or 512 GB of system memory. The Pro+ is apparently only available with 256 GB of internal storage. Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12 is used as the operating system.

Both smartphones also rely on a 4,500 mAh battery that can be charged quickly via USB Type-C with up to 100 watts. According to the manufacturer, a complete charging process thus takes about 30 minutes.

Strong cameras thanks to new Sony IMX800 sensor

As is typical for Honor, the 70 Pro and 70 Pro+ want to score points primarily in terms of cameras. Accordingly, both models rely on the new Sony IMX800 sensor in 1/1.49-inch format, which is supposed to provide better image quality thanks to a larger sensor area.

There are no differences between the camera setups in the two Honor smartphones. Accordingly, they are composed of the following lenses:

  • Main camera: 54 megapixel resolution (IMX800 sensor), f/1.9 aperture
  • Ultra-wide-angle camera: 50 megapixel resolution, f/2.2 aperture, macro mode
  • Telephoto camera: 8 megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, f/2.4 aperture, OIS image stabilization
  • Front camera: 50 megapixel resolution, AI “Super-Perception” camera, f/2.4 aperture

On the back, Honor 70 Pro and Pro+ record videos in 4K resolution and offer up to 30x digital zoom. There are also special photo and video modes for time-lapse photography, a night and portrait mode, professional shooting modes and a macro mode that is said to focus at a distance of just 2.5 cm.

Prices and Availability

The two smartphones, Honor 70 Pro and Honor 70 Pro+, are launching in China first and can be pre-ordered there now. It starts from an MSRP of 3,699 yuan, which is equivalent to around 516 euros, for the 70 Pro with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB ROM.

The Pro+ with the same features, on the other hand, starts at 4,299 yuan (about 600 euros). Honor has not yet revealed when and at which prices the two smartphones will be offered in Europe.
