With the HOVERAir AQUA, HOVERAir is launching a technical innovation onto the market that could redefine the field of action and drone cameras. The world’s first fully waterproof self-flying camera is now available globally and is aimed at anyone who wants to take spectacular aerial shots on and around the water without the need for traditional drones. Following a successful crowdfunding phase and launch in August 2025, the device is now officially on sale and promises autonomous 4K aerial footage for water sports and outdoor adventures.
- 100% waterproof to IP67 and floatable for launches directly on the water
- 4K video recording at up to 100 fps for sharp slow-motion sequences
- Autonomous follow-me function without manual control
- Weighs less than 250 grams at flight speeds of up to 55 km/h
HOVERAir AQUA sets new standards for autonomous water recordings
The HOVERAir AQUA was specially developed for environments in which conventional drones quickly reach their limits. Water, wind, spray and changing weather conditions have so far been considered challenging areas of application for flying cameras. This is precisely where the new model comes in, combining a robust design with intelligent automatic flight control.
The fully IP67-certified housing protects the technology from water and dust. If the camera lands on the surface of the water, it remains buoyant and can take off again immediately. The concept is complemented by a hydrophobic lens coating, anti-fog technology and corrosion-resistant materials. This combination seems technically plausible and meets the requirements that are actually relevant in the field of water sports.
With a weight of less than 250 grams, the AQUA is also in a range that can offer regulatory advantages in many regions. According to the manufacturer, it also reaches speeds of up to 55 km/h and should remain stable even in wind force 7. These performance data seem ambitious for a compact follow-me system, but in view of modern flight stabilization and AI-supported tracking systems, they are certainly realistic.
The positioning as a fully autonomous camera is particularly exciting. Instead of manual control, the integrated AI takes over the tracking of movements and automatically adjusts camera perspectives.
4K technology and intelligent flight modes make HOVERAir AQUA a content tool
In terms of technology, the HOVERAir AQUA relies on a 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensor that enables video recordings in 4K at up to 100 frames per second. This equipment not only promises sharp recordings, but also opens up high-quality slow-motion sequences for action-packed scenes on the water.
More than ten intelligent flight modes enable automatic camera movements that were previously only possible with professional equipment or additional crew. The integrated SmoothCapture stabilization system reliably compensates for movements and ensures stable shots even in dynamic sports such as wakeboarding, kitesurfing or kayaking.
The practical nature of the concept is underlined by the cooperation with professional athletes such as Dominik Gührs. The device offers clear advantages, particularly in the area of content creation: spontaneous recordings without a pilot, no complex settings and full concentration on the activity itself.
For the manufacturer Zero Zero Robotics, the AQUA is a logical extension of its portfolio of autonomous camera systems. The device combines modern AI tracking technology with a specialized field of application and thus occupies a niche that has hardly been addressed to date.
Innovative special drone with premium price
The HOVERAir AQUA brings a convincing overall package for water and outdoor enthusiasts to the market. The combination of waterproof design, autonomous flight behavior and high-quality 4K technology clearly sets it apart from classic action cams and standard drones.
With an entry-level price of EUR 1,299 for the standard combo, the model is positioned in the premium segment. In view of its specialization and technical features, the price seems reasonable. The camera is now available worldwide online and from selected retailers.
