HP 14: New notebook comes with Qualcomm SoC, 4G support and Windows 11

The new HP 14 notebook also uses a Qualcomm SOC with (theoretically) eight cores including 4G support and has a remarkable battery life of 15 hours. The new 14 incher is supposed to ship directly with Windows 11 at an attractive price from October 2021.

Qualcomm chip as CPU and GPU solution

The notebook, simply christened HP 14n, again relies on an Intel nor an AMD CPU. Rather, an eight-core SoC from Qualcomm is used, more precisely, the laptop relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2. Specifically, it is a 2+6 core design that is composed of two Cortex-A76 (Kryo 468 Gold) cores and six small Cortex-A55 (Kryo 468 Silver) cores. According to HP, the CPUs’ clock rate is 2.4 GHz.

8 gigabytes of LPDDR4x-4266 working memory are soldered directly on the motherboard and cannot be expanded. The HP 14 uses an Adreno 618 GPU for graphics performance.  The optionally installed Snapdragon X15 modem provides 4G support, while WLAN-ac and Bluetooth 5 connectivity are always on board.

As the name suggests, the notebook uses a 14-inch IPS touch display with a Full HD resolution. It only has a brightness of 250 nits and offers a 45 percent NTSC color space coverage. The screen-to-body ratio is around 84 percent.

The mass storage also turns out to be manageable. Only 128 GB are available as eMMC storage, but there is at least a microSD card reader. In terms of ports, two USB-A and one USB-C port (each with a maximum speed of 5 Gbps) are offered, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Up to 15 hours of battery life

The HP 14’s 32-Whr battery is supposed to last for up to 15 hours, and up to 8.5 hours of battery life during wireless streaming should be possible, according to the manufacturer. In return, there is a fast charging function via USB C, thanks to which the notebook can be charged to 50 percent within 30 minutes.

Price and availability

The HP 14 is initially to be offered exclusively in the US from October 05, and only in stores of the Walmart chain. The colors white, silver and gold are available for selection. Matching Windows 11, which will be released on the same day, will be pre-installed. HP did not reveal if and when the notebook will be available in Germany and how high the price will be.
