HP Velotechnik Speedmachine S-Pedelec: recumbent bike reaches 45 km/h speed

With the HP Velotechnik Speedmachine S-Pedelec, you’ll get around pretty fast. The S-pedelec marks the world’s first single-track recumbent bike in the fast class of S-pedelecs. It accelerates to 45 mph in just over 8 seconds.

If you ever want to go faster, but you don’t want to give up the comfort of a recumbent, the HP Velotechnik Speedmachine comes into play. There’s already a normal recumbent under the same name. But the classic low recumbent is now also available with an e-drive that provides pedaling assistance up to 45 km/h.

In 8.29 seconds, the comfortable recumbent is supposed to accelerate from a standstill to its maximum speed of 45 km/h. The full-suspension bike is equipped with the virtually silent Z20 RS rear hub motor from Neodrives. This develops a peak power of 1000 watts with an efficiency of 85 percent.

However, the low center of gravity with the battery mounted under the seat should allow you to steer the S-Pedelec with precision even at high speeds. And that’s even when you’ve loaded the recumbent with up to four panniers.

Strong Features

The features of the HP Velotechnik Speedmachine S-Pedelec are absolutely impressive. Offered are hydraulic disc brakes, a powerful lighting of Busch & Müller with 150 lux, a large rear view mirror and a luggage rack for two bags.

Front and rear wheel have particularly soft suspension to ensure the highest possible riding comfort. At the front, the Concept 5 head suspension fork is used, while at the rear the suspension works with No Squat technology. This effectively prevents compression caused by drive forces.

Another practical feature is that HP Velotechnik is now a registered vehicle manufacturer with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. This means that individual approvals from TÜV will no longer be required for the manufacturer’s wheels in the future, which makes approval much easier thanks to a type approval.

Price and availability

The HP Velotechnik Speedmachine S-Pedelec is expected to make its way to retailers in the fall of 2022. It will start at an MSRP of 8,690 euros. If you want to check out the electric recumbent for yourself, you can do so at Eurobike 2022. It can be seen at the HP Velotechnik booth in Hall 8 (D22) during the trade show in Frankfurt. There you can also see the Thok MIG-HT-R and Thok MIG-HT e-bikes, as well as the Yadea Guanneng 3 e-scooter.
