Shortly before Huawei’s major launch event on September 2, the first details and high-resolution images of the upcoming FreeBuds Neo have surfaced. According to a report by Winfuture, the new in-ear headphones are set to hit the market at a very attractive price of 129 euros and will feature a significantly revamped design.
New, More Compact Design
Compared to the current Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5, the FreeBuds Neo’s housing appears significantly more rounded and slightly more compact, according to the leaked images. Visually, Huawei seems to be taking cues more from the Apple AirPods Pro than from the more angular shapes of older FreeBuds generations. For an entry-level model, the design looks unusually high-end.
LDAC, ANC, and AI-Enhanced Voice Quality as Standard
Despite the comparatively low price, the FreeBuds Neo are not expected to skimp on features. Reportedly, they will feature 11-millimeter dynamic drivers capable of reproducing frequencies from 20 Hz to 40 kHz. Connectivity is via Bluetooth 6.0; in addition to SBC and AAC, Sony’s Hi-Fi codec LDAC is also supported. Active noise cancellation is standard, as is an additional chip designed to improve voice quality during calls using AI.
Up to 40 hours of battery life, IP55 protection
Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours without noise cancellation and 6.5 hours with it enabled. With the charging case, these figures are expected to increase to 40 and 24 hours, respectively. According to reports, the case is IP55-certified, making it resistant to sweat and light rain.
This would position the FreeBuds Neo at a price point well below that of the FreeBuds Pro 5, without making any major compromises on core features. The FreeBuds Neo are set to be officially unveiled at the Huawei launch event on September 2, where new smartwatches are also expected to be unveiled. Since this is currently just a leak, the information provided should be taken with a grain of salt.
