HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5: Dual-engine AI-ANC and lossless sound on a new level

With the new HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5, Huawei is taking its premium in-ears to a new level. The true wireless headphones combine dual-engine AI noise cancellation with high-resolution, lossless audio for the first time. The aim: maximum silence in everyday life, crystal-clear phone calls and an immersive sound experience – whether in the office, on the move or when gaming. In addition to technical innovation, the model also sets new standards in terms of design and connectivity.

  • Dual-engine AI ANC with two drivers and real-time analysis of up to 400,000 adjustments per second
  • Lossless audio transmission with L2HC 4.0 codec (up to 2.3 Mbps, 48 kHz/24 bit)
  • Three microphones + bone conduction microphone for clear conversations up to 100 dB ambient noise
  • Dual-device connection and audio sharing for flexible multi-device use

Dual-engine AI noise cancellation of the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 in detail

The core innovation of the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 is the new dual-engine ANC architecture. Instead of relying on a single driver for noise suppression, two specialized units work in parallel: an ultra-linear dual-magnet driver eliminates constant, low-frequency noise such as engine hum or train noise. It is supplemented by a microplanar membrane driver that specifically compensates for high-frequency and sudden noise peaks – such as voices or door slams.

The system is controlled by a MIMO AI sensing model that analyzes ambient noise up to 400,000 times per second, according to the manufacturer. On this basis, the headphones generate precise counter-waves in real time. The result is immediate noise suppression when the earbuds are inserted and dynamic adaptation to changing environments.

There is also an awareness mode that allows ambient noise to pass through – for announcements or short conversations, for example. An adaptive volume control automatically adjusts the playback to the ambient level. This keeps the sound stable without the need for manual readjustment. This creates a much more consistent listening experience, especially in urban environments or when traveling.

Ultra-immersive sound, precise calls and flexible connectivity

The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 also position themselves in the high-end segment in terms of sound. The dual-drive acoustic system physically separates high and low frequencies. In combination with the L2HC 4.0 audio codec, this enables transmission at up to 2.3 Mbps and supports lossless audio quality at 48 kHz and 24 bit – provided the playback device is compatible.

Four predefined sound profiles – HUAWEI SOUND Balanced, Voice, Classical and Bass – allow quick adaptation to the music genre or usage scenario. While “Balanced” delivers a neutral sound image, “Bass” emphasizes the bass significantly more. “Voice” is particularly suitable for podcasts or calls, “Classical” for detailed, dynamic recordings.

For phone calls, the headphones rely on a setup of three microphones and an additional bone conduction microphone. AI algorithms separate voice and ambient noise. Even at noise levels of up to 100 dB or wind speeds of up to 10 m/s, conversations should remain clearly understandable. According to the manufacturer, quiet speech or whispers are also transmitted reliably.

In terms of connectivity, the earbuds support a dual-device connection. This allows a parallel connection to a smartphone and laptop, including automatic device switching for incoming calls. Settings can be customized via the HUAWEI Audio Connect app (iOS and Android). Audio Sharing also allows you to share an audio stream with a second compatible HUAWEI headset.

The overall package is rounded off by the new Star Oval design with a compact charging case (5.5% smaller than its predecessor), IP57 certification against dust and water and color variants in sand gold, black, white and dark blue.

Conclusion

The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 combine innovative dual-engine AI ANC, high-resolution sound and strong call performance in a compact premium design. The adaptive noise suppression and lossless audio transmission in particular make this model stand out in the true wireless segment. The recommended retail price is 199 euros. At market launch, they will be available from the HUAWEI Online Store, the flagship store in Berlin and selected retailers – in some cases with a discount for a limited time.
