Huawei has officially unveiled the Mate 70 series and aims to set new standards in the high-end smartphone segment with four models – Mate 70 Pro+, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 RS Ultimate and Mate 70. The devices are characterized by innovative technologies and a versatile range that has been developed for different user needs.
Overview: The four models in detail
Huawei Mate 70 Pro+
The flagship aims to impress with a 6.9-inch OLED display (1-120 Hz), titanium frame and IP69 certification. It offers the most powerful camera equipment with a 50 MP main sensor, 48 MP telephoto lens and 40 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The highlight is the multispectral image sensor technology, which opens up new possibilities in image analysis. The 5,700 mAh battery supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.
Huawei Mate 70 Pro
The Pro model is very similar to the Pro+ model. However, there are small but subtle differences. For example, there are slight compromises in the choice of materials. There is unlikely to be a titanium frame here. The camera’s zoom setup is also expected to be slightly worse than the Pro+ model. Nevertheless, it should be a top device with outstanding performance, camera technology and robust construction.
Huawei Mate 70 RS Ultimate
This variant stands out thanks to its particularly luxurious design with a special case finish. It is aimed at users who value design and exclusivity as well as technology. Technically, the model is similar to the Pro+. So the only difference here is aesthetic.
Huawei Mate 70
The Huawei Mate 70 is the entry into the new product lineup of the Mate 70 series. The standard model of the upcoming series offers many of the core functions of the higher models, but at a more affordable price. Huawei is therefore clearly targeting users who are looking for a high-performance smartphone without premium features.
Powerful Kirin SoC and HarmonyOS
The entire series is to be powered by a new Kirin processor, which is to boast impressive power. This performance is made possible by the use of a 5 nm process, which could give Huawei a technical edge in chip development. All devices run on HarmonyOS, Huawei’s own operating system, which aims to offer an improved user experience and new functions. The camera setups with RYYB sensor technology should ensure better lighting conditions and sharper images.
The proverbial focus is on the new multispectral camera. This should offer exciting application possibilities, the potential of which will become apparent in the coming months. The series also features extended satellite communication functions, which could be particularly useful in remote areas or in emergencies. The display quality should be outstanding on all devices and score points for brilliance. An adaptive refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz is intended to reconcile smooth moving images with energy efficiency.
Prices and availability
The Huawei Mate 70 series offers a wide selection of models, ranging from flagship for the masses to ultra-luxury. There should be something for everyone – provided you can do without Android and are happy with Huawei’s own HarmonyOS operating system. Of course, the new devices in the Mate 70 series also come with a decisive disadvantage – Google software is not on board. Chinese customers can access the latest smartphones immediately.
The Huawei Mate 70 starts at the equivalent of €725 and comes with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory. If you need or want more, you have to pay extra. At the end of the range is the Huawei Mate Pro+, which costs the equivalent of €1250 in the top configuration with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage space. The prices for the subsequently released Ultimate are likely to be correspondingly higher. However, it is still unclear when the smartphones will be launched in our region.
