Huawei Matepad Pro & Pro 5G are powerful alternatives to the iPad Pro

In addition to the foldable Huawei Mate Xs, the Chinese company today also presented a new tablet to the public. The Huawei Matepad Pro and Matepad Pro 5G will also be released in Germany, but due to the trade embargo of the USA it will be available with Android 10 but without the Google Mobile Services. Alternatively, the company will install its own Huawei Mobile Services and the Huawei App Gallery. In principle, it is still possible to install the Google Apps manually, but this is not recommended in a support document.

Buyers who can live with these restrictions will get a powerful and comparatively cheap alternative to the iPad Pro, which costs 549 euros to 949 euros depending on the features. Thanks to the thin frame, the tablet becomes pleasantly compact with its 10.8 inch display. The resolution of the IPS panel is 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, which corresponds to a pixel density of 280 ppi. According to Huawei, the maximum brightness is 540 cdm², which also allows outdoor use.

The Matepad Pro is driven by the Kirin 990 System-on-a-Chip (SoC), which was first installed in the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and is now also used in the Huawei Mate Xs. The 5G version of the chip also has an integrated Balong 5000 modem and a slightly higher clock frequency.

The equipment of the Matepad Pro models should also appeal to professional users. An optional smart keyboard with two set-up angles (129 euro) turns the tablet into a compact notebook. Graphic artists and designers will be happy about the M-Pencil for 99 euro. The stylus supports 4,096 pressure levels and has angle detection. Like on the iPad Pro, it is attached to the frame with a magnetic holder. The battery is also charged inductively in the holding position. In addition, two sleeves are available as folio and sleeve for 39 Euros each.
