With the Sound X5, Huawei presents a new smart home speaker that combines performance and design in an unusual way. In addition to powerful audio hardware with six speakers and 160 watts of output power, the model features an eye-catching, partially transparent housing including RGB lighting – and optionally even 18-carat gold plating. This positions the device not only as an audio solution, but also as a design statement in the smart home sector.

  • 6 speakers with a total output of 160 watts
  • Frequency range from 36 Hz to 40 kHz for powerful bass and clear highs
  • RGB lighting in the transparent housing
  • Optional model with 18-carat gold finish

Huawei Sound X5 combines high-end audio with eye-catching premium design

The Huawei Sound X5 remains true to the cylindrical shape of its predecessor, but clearly stands out with its new design. The housing is partially transparent and is dominated by dynamic RGB lighting that moves to the beat of the music. This combination of light and sound is clearly aimed at users who value visual presentation as well as audio quality.

Technically, Huawei relies on a sophisticated speaker setup. A 126 mm woofer works together with two passive radiators and delivers deep bass down to 36 Hz. The system is complemented by four mid-range drivers and a tweeter, covering a broad sound spectrum up to 40 kHz. Each driver is amplified separately, which contributes to the total output of 160 watts.

The automatic sound adjustment is particularly noteworthy. The speaker analyses its surroundings and optimizes the audio output accordingly. As a result, the sound quality remains stable even if the device is placed in an unfavorable position, such as in a corner or close to a wall. This function is useful in practice as it eliminates the need for time-consuming manual adjustments.

Smart features and luxurious version with gold finish

In addition to audio performance, Huawei has integrated numerous smart home functions. Six microphones enable the use of a voice assistant, allowing the speaker to be controlled hands-free. The device can also be paired with other Huawei products. For example, music playback can be automatically reduced if a compatible smartwatch detects that the user is falling asleep.

Operation has also been designed to be intuitive. Touch-sensitive surfaces allow playback to be paused or the lighting to be adjusted. A simple hand movement on the housing is enough to mute the sound. Several options are available for audio transmission: In addition to Bluetooth and WLAN, music can also be fed in classically via AUX cable.

A special highlight is the premium version with 18-carat gold. This is not a completely solid housing, but rather a gold-plated version that sets specific accents. This version is clearly aimed at users who are looking for exclusivity as well as technology. In view of the comparatively moderate surcharge, this version appears to be a deliberately placed luxury option within the product range.

Conclusion

The Huawei Sound X5 combines powerful audio performance with an eye-catching design and smart functions. The combination of 160 watts of power, automatic sound optimization and RGB lighting in particular sets it apart from classic smart speakers. The gold-plated version also adds a luxurious touch. In China, the model starts at around 274 euros, while the gold version costs around 310 euros. Information on a global release is still pending. A possible alternative would be the WiiM Sound (our test).
