Huawei had a mammoth task ahead of it with its third generation of the Huawei Watch. After the company already had to feed its own operating system into the smartphone market, Harmony OS is now used on a smartwatch from the Chinese company for the first time. Let’s take a look at the new launch with Harmony OS 2.0.
New watch, new luck?
It has been four years since Huawei launched its last smartwatch. But now the Chinese want to do a lot better. In a way, they are even forced to take this step. The company introduced the Pro model in addition to the standard version of the Huawei Watch 3. Had it not been for the inevitable departure from Android, the wait would certainly have been much shorter.
But in the new beginning also lies something good for Huawei. With the release of the Watch 3 series, the tech company continues to expand its ecosystem around its in-house operating system Harmony OS 2.0. Android including its extensive Google services is no longer needed for Huawei devices.
Classic watch design
The first look at the third generation of Huawei’s smartwatch quickly makes it clear that much remains the same, at least in terms of design. The Chinese manufacturer still relies on a classic round dial. However, the glass above the chic OLED screen with a diameter of 1.43 inches is now round as well. It is now characterized by a slight curvature. The differences between the standard and Pro versions are not only evident in the name and technology.

The different sizes of 46 millimeters (standard version) and 48 millimeters (Pro version) are also clearly visible. Another feature that separates the two is the choice of materials. While the standard version mainly relies on stainless steel, the Pro version uses high-quality materials like titanium, ceramic and sapphire crystal. The main control element, on the other hand, is again identical. You can navigate through Huawei’s operating system with the help of the convenient rotating crown. We already know this from the industry leader Apple Watch.
Mobile Internet thanks to E-SIM
Huawei gives its Watch 3 plenty of independence. This is made possible by the E-SIM function. This means you don’t need a smartphone as an interface to access Internet functions or make phone calls. Besides the E-SIM feature, Huawei also installs other commendable hardware. Thanks to the HiSilicon Hi6262 chip, we do not have to worry about sufficient performance. The chip gets support from 2 GB of RAM.
The storage capacity of 16 GB should be sufficient for most users without any problems. Of course, the battery life is also important. The Watch 3 is supposed to be able to last three days with normal use. If you turn off the tracking function, the period is even extended to 14 days according to Huawei. In contrast, the Pro model offers five days of battery life with tracking turned on and 21 days with tracking turned off. These values are very good.
Features for sports enthusiasts
A particularly important target group for the smartwatch market is undoubtedly hobby and professional athletes. Huawei is aware of this and offers 17 different workouts that are automatically recognized in the Watch 3. A total of 85 different sports can be tracked. Everyone should be able to find what they are looking for. Of course, the upcoming smartwatch does not only measure your pulse. It also offers modern sensors for measuring stress levels and blood oxygen. The permanent measurement of body temperature should also be of interest to some.
Prices and availability
Huawei’s new smartwatches will be available as early as June 18. The MSRP of the standard version of the Huawei Watch 3 starts at 369 euros. Away from the affordable Active model, however, you can also opt for the Classic version (399 Euros) or the Fashion version (449 Euros). Besides the three models of the standard version, the Pro version also offers two different versions. Huawei charges 499 Euros (Classic) or 599 Euros (Elite).
