Huawei Watch GT 7: Two Sizes, a Very Bright Display
Like its predecessor, the Watch GT 7 comes in two case sizes. The smaller model measures 41.3 × 41.3 × 9.99 millimeters, weighs between 36.5 and 37.5 grams depending on the color variant, and features a 1.32-inch AMOLED display. The 46-millimeter version is significantly larger at 46 × 46 × 10.95 millimeters and weighs 51.3 grams, but the display is larger at 1.47 inches. Huawei takes a pragmatic approach to materials: The front bezel is made of stainless steel, while the back is made of a fiber-reinforced composite material. New Sports and Health Features
The more exciting area of development this time around is the software. According to Huawei, the company has improved location accuracy by 20 percent and is touting a revamped Sunflower positioning system complete with an AI-XDR algorithm. This is expected to pay off especially when skiing: The new Pro Ski mode tracks turn type, number of turns, turn frequency, and G-forces, and provides maps for over 3,000 ski resorts in 59 countries.
Runners get “Running Power” as a dedicated metric, along with vertical oscillation and the balance of ground contact time between the left and right sides. The trail running mode adjusts the pace based on the incline. In cycling mode, you can import routes; the watch displays elevation profiles, warns of tight turns, and summarizes climbs in an overview. In total, Huawei lists more than 100 sports modes, while individual data sheets mention over 110.
On the health side, TruSleep 5.0 provides sleep analysis, along with a readiness score that factors in both exertion and recovery. In China, Huawei is also launching studies on coronary heart disease and blood sugar risk (with the Pro model) as well as women’s health, including ovarian function and PCOS risk (with the standard version). Whether and when such features will be enabled in Europe remains to be seen. Experience shows that this takes time—if it happens at all.
One catch remains: The full range of features requires a Huawei smartphone running HarmonyOS. Pairing and notifications work with Android phones and iPhones, but some features are missing. Conclusion: A solid update, but no major leaps forward
The Huawei Watch GT 7 isn’t a fresh start, but rather a fine-tuning. Compared to the GT 6, hardly anything has changed in terms of the display, resolution, or dimensions; the main new features are the colors, watch bands, and software. The series gets interesting in two areas. First, the battery: 51 hours of continuous GPS operation in trail running mode is an impressive figure for a watch in this price range, compared to 40 hours for the GT 6. Second, the Pro model—featuring titanium, sapphire glass, ECG, and free diving up to 40 meters—offers more value for the money at around 345 euros than what Samsung and Garmin have on the shelves in this price range.
