Hyundai Ioniq 5: New edition brings larger battery and digital mirrors

The new model of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car gets a larger battery and digital mirrors. But owners of the current model can also look forward to an update that automatically adjusts the temperature of the power storage unit while driving.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: New model with improvements

Hyundai is engaged in model maintenance and will release a new edition of the electric car Hyundai Ioniq 5 later this year that addresses the problems of the current model. A 77.4 kWh battery pack is at work in the top model, and there are also optional video-based digital mirrors.

Both the rear and side mirrors then go completely digital and only hold a camera, which is supposed to ensure better aerodynamics. The Digital Centre Mirror (DCM) rearview mirror offers an improved and wider panoramic image. The camera responsible for this is positioned below the rear spoiler of the Ioniq 5.

New battery conditioning

Another new feature is a so-called battery conditioning function that allows the temperature of the power storage unit to be automatically adjusted while driving. This is intended to improve charging conditions while the electric car is still on its way to a charging station.

Especially in cold, wintry temperatures, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 did not reach the planned charging speeds, which should finally be a thing of the past with the update. If a charging station is entered and navigated to via the vehicle’s navigation system, the new function activates automatically – it apparently cannot be controlled manually.

Another new feature marks the Smart Frequency Dampers (SFD) function, which controls the response of the front and rear axle suspension and is thus supposed to increase driving comfort.

In addition, the new Ioniq 5 comes up with further detail improvements and visual adjustments. These include, for example, non-painted black bumpers with LED projection. The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 of the 2023 model year is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2022. The manufacturer has not yet provided details on prices.
