Anyone working for IBM in the U.S. who does not pick up a full COVID-19 vaccination by early December will no longer be allowed to work for the IT company. That’s according to business news channel CNBC, citing a memo from the company to employees.
IBM makes COVID vaccination mandatory
In it, IBM invokes President Joe Biden’s issued vaccination order for government contractors. Anyone who does not get fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by Dec. 8, 2021, will be relieved of work without pay, the memo says, making the vaccination directive almost equivalent to termination.
“As a government contractor, it is a compelling business imperative for IBM to comply,” the memo states. Back in July, Google became the first technology company to make vaccination a requirement in the U.S. before employees could return to the company’s offices.
With this strict measure, the U.S., in combination with the easy accessibility of the vaccine nationwide, wants to counteract the ongoing global pandemic. In Germany, however, a corresponding vaccination requirement on the part of companies is not legal.
