IFA 2022: Asus ExpertBook B5 Flip convertible presented

As part of the IFA 2022, Asus is setting itself up very broadly. Besides the compact PC case Asus Prime AP201, the hardware expert also launches a new convertible. The Asus ExpertBook B5 Flip does not only want to please with a high-quality OLED screen. On top of that, there is a lot of power under the hood.

An optional OLED screen with a decent resolution

One of the highlights of the Asus ExpertBook B5 Flip is undoubtedly the display. If you opt for the maximum configuration, you get a 3,840 x 2,400 pixel OLED display. Not only the resolution is good, but also the brightness. The screen is supposed to offer its user up to 400 nits, which should provide a good overview even in bright surroundings. Users who opt for the OLED version should also benefit from the commonly known advantages of this panel type. Among other things, you get an impressive contrast thanks to really deep blacks. If OLED is not important or too expensive, you can also choose a model with an IPS panel. This also offers a brightness of 400 nits, but only has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. Of course, values like contrast and color fidelity are likely to fall short in direct comparison to the OLED variant.

The technical details sound promising

Of course, an optional OLED screen is a big selling point for the attractive convertible. But Asus also seems to have a hot iron in the fire here aside from the display technology. At the core, the processor, you have the choice between an Intel Core i5-1240P or the stronger Intel Core i7-1260P. The CPU is supported by 8, 16 or 32 GB of RAM. The buyer also has freedom of choice in terms of the graphics unit. You can choose a dedicated graphics card with the Intel Arc A350M, which should deliver decent performance for a convertible. However, you should not expect miracles. In terms of storage, a maximum of 2 TB is available in the form of an NVMe SSD.

Of course, battery life also plays a big role in a convertible. And Asus doesn’t make any compromises here either, at least on paper. Surprisingly, you can also have your say in the battery size. It offers a capacity of 50 Wh or 84 Wh. Since the Asus ExpertBook B5 Flip will primarily be interesting for studies or work, the ports are of course also extremely important. Besides a USB-A port and a LAN port, two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 are supposed to be used. The whole thing is rounded off with a microSD slot, HDMI-out and a 3.5 mm jack.

Price and Availability

In view of the rich features of the Asus ExpertBook B5 Flip, it is hardly surprising that the hardware expert wants to call up a steep price with an MSRP starting at 1,399 EUR. We will see whether this price is worth it in the fourth quarter of 2022. That is when the promising convertible will hit the market.
