Huawei has presented some exciting news at IFA 2022. Besides its powerful Ultrabook MateBook X Pro 2022, a new smartwatch is also part of the lineup at this year’s consumer electronics show. The highlight of the premium watch is a blood pressure cuff that the Chinese electronics company hides in the wristband.
Smartwatch with revolutionary blood pressure measurement
Nothing has happened in the field of smartwatches for a long time. The flagships in the form of Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch celebrated the last great revolution with the measurement of blood oxygen. In view of the fact that mid-range smartwatches now also offer a corresponding function, it was once again time for a technical breakthrough. So the Huawei Watch D was just right at this year’s IFA. The Chinese electronics company provides the smartwatch with two features that even the well-known competition cannot offer yet. For example, there is a small pump in the wristband that offers a lot of power.
Together with a pressure sensor, it is suitable as a compact blood pressure monitor. Huawei promises that the measuring device should deliver very accurate results. The manufacturer makes it clear that this is not just a gimmick by announcing that the Huawei Watch D is also to be recognized as a medical device in Europe. Apple showed how difficult such a recognition is when it was about the first Apple Watch with blood oxygen measurement. Away from blood pressure, Huawei’s upcoming smartwatch is also said to be able to write a comprehensive ECG.
The Huawei Watch D is for the health-conscious
In addition to ECG and blood pressure, the upcoming smartwatch also offers many other health data. As a wearer, you should be able to keep an eye on these at all times. The measuring unit that is used here is called Huawei TrueSeen 5.0+. It consists of various sensors that not only track your sleep patterns and blood oxygen.
On top of that, Huawei says it measures the wearer’s stress level as well as skin temperature. The latter feature, like the blood pressure measurement, is also a new feature, by the way. However, even though it is new, one has to wonder why the manufacturer integrated it into the Huawei Watch D. After all, mere skin temperature is of no use when you want to find out if a person is feverish.
A smartwatch that gets along with everyone
Huawei still has a very tough time in the market. This is especially true in the smartphone, but also smartwatch industry. So it is all the more understandable that the company wants to position itself broadly for its upcoming Huawei Watch D and does not only throw its own smartphones into the room as potential partners. The new smartwatch is supposed to work just as well with Android devices (from version 6.0) as with iPhones (from version iOS 12.0). The first information about the battery life sounds just as good. The Huawei Watch D is expected to run for almost a week on a single charge. In view of the extensive features, this would be a real benchmark that Huawei could set here.
Price and availability
Of course, so many features don’t come at a bargain price. It is currently rumored that the Huawei Watch D will launch at an MSRP of just under 450 euros. However, since it is officially allowed to be sold as a medical device, especially people with cardiovascular diseases might feel ready to spend as potential customers. The promising smartwatch is scheduled to go on sale in fall 2022.
