Lenovo is probably one of the busiest exhibitors at IFA 2022. The Chinese company not only presented the successor of its foldable notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. With its exciting Lenovo Glasses T1, it is also exploring completely new areas of electronics. However, classic devices were also represented at the tech expert’s booth. Thus, they presented various notebooks such as the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook – the first 16-inch Chromebook from the Chinese manufacturer.
That’s pretty big for a Chromebook
It’s quite exciting what has happened in the field of Chromebooks in the last few years. While the first models were almost exclusively in the compact 13-inch format, the notebooks with Google’s operating system are now also available in larger sizes. This is also the case for the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook presented at IFA 2022. The 16-inch device is also the first Chromebook in this size that Lenovo manufactures. The first specs that the Chinese company revealed already sound very good. The display not only offers a sharp 2.5K resolution. On top of that, it is supposed to offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The battery also seems to be promising. The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is supposed to last up to 12 hours, which should be sufficient even for long workdays.
An Intel Core i3 (12th Gen), among others, is supposed to provide sufficient performance. In terms of connectivity, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is also up to date with features like WiFi 6E. Otherwise, Lenovo advertises its large Chromebook as having many improvements over the previous generation. This includes a larger trackpad, among other things. But the keyboard is also supposed to offer a higher input comfort thanks to a slightly deeper key drop. The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is also well-equipped for video conferencing, which has become fashionable. Besides a webcam with FHD resolution, a microphone and MaxxAudio speakers are also on board. A camera cover that can be conveniently slid in front of the lens ensures data protection.
Price and availability
The few details that are known so far definitely make our anticipation for the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook rise. However, we still have to be a bit patient until the release in spring 2023. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet commented on the prices.
