There are also exciting novelties for gamers to admire at IFA 2022. For example, XMG took the Funkausstellung in the German capital as an opportunity to present its new XMG Focus models. This is said to not only offer more performance, but also more choice when it comes to the display.
Performance boost for entry-level gaming notebook
In mid-August, we reported that Schenker had unveiled its new flagship with the XMG Neo 17 (M22). Now the company has also presented the entry-level devices with the Focus models. A lot has changed under the hood of the XMG Focus. While the previous generation was equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti at most, the gaming expert has equipped its 2022 models with a GeForce RTX 3060. Thus, the gaming notebook should offer significantly more performance. The processor has also been reworked. The Intel Core i7 11800H still worked in the previous model. Now, an Intel Core i7-12700H Alder Lake is the heart of the notebook. According to XMG, the revised hardware should also be reflected in significantly better results in benchmark tests. The Time Spy test from 3DMark, for example, is said to reveal 48 percent more performance.
Three different display sizes on the XMG Focus
How big the screen of a gaming notebook should best be is a matter of taste. In order to satisfy every taste, XMG therefore also gives its Focus series three different sizes. The 15.6-inch Focus 15, whose size we already know from the predecessor, is the first one. A new addition is the Focus 16, which offers 16 inches. Also known is the Focus 17, which offers 17.3 inches. Although it is in the midfield in terms of size, the Focus 16 is supposed to be the new locking top of the range in terms of display technology.
Thus, it offers an IPS panel that resolves with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and offers 400 nits of brightness. In contrast, XMG Focus 15 and 17 resolve in FHD. However, they have a refresh rate of 144 Hz in common. Depending on the size of the display, the gaming notebooks also have different portabilities. Even the large XMG Focus 17 should still be comfortable to carry for a gaming notebook at just 2.6 kg. The smallest Focus 15 is said to weigh just over two kilograms. Thanks to a revised cooling system, the XMG Focus is also supposed to be pleasingly slim.
Whoever has the choice is spoiled for choice
You can not only decide what is used in your personal XMG Focus in terms of display size, graphics card and processor. The buyer can also determine other technical details. For example, up to 64 GB of RAM should be possible. Despite the slim build, XMG also wants to focus on a high maintenance comfort. For example, the battery is not permanently installed, but only screwed in. So, if the 54 Wh battery should ever give up the ghost, you can easily replace it on your own.
The connectivity options are also impressive. Besides two USB-A ports, there are also supposed to be two USB-C ports. One of the latter two is supposed to support Thunderbolt 4. The equipment is rounded off by Gigabit Ethernet, microSD slot, miniDisplayPort, HDMI and audio ports. Killer Wi-Fi 6E is supposed to provide a blazing fast Internet connection without cables. Input comfort is provided by the backlit keyboard. According to XMG, this is supposed to be rubberdome keys.
Price and availability
With the XMG Focus, we can possibly expect a really good gaming notebook. At least the technical details of the gaming behemoth, which is available now, read very well. The 17-inch model starts at 1,729.00 Euros, and the 16-inch model at 1,749 Euros.
