With the AirDew, LG is entering the hair dryer market for the first time, and at IFA 2026 in Berlin, the company is also showcasing the LG SIGNATURE Downdraft range hood, which can be controlled by hand gestures and retracts flush into the countertop. Both new products are aimed at users with limited space who prefer smart technology over bulky appliances.

In a nutshell

  • The LG AirDew is the manufacturer’s first in-house hair dryer; it weighs just 360 grams and uses Triple Airfluidics technology for faster drying at lower temperatures.
  • A sensor measures the distance to the hair and automatically adjusts the temperature (capped at around 55 °C); it also features a Pet Mode and ThinQ connectivity.
  • The LG SIGNATURE downdraft range hood is integrated into the countertop, draws fumes downward, and is controlled via hand gestures using a motion sensor.
  • Both appliances are part of a seven-piece line of home appliances that LG is showcasing at IFA 2026; prices and a launch date in Germany have not yet been announced.

LG AirDew: LG’s First In-House Hair Dryer

With the AirDew, LG is introducing its first proprietary model in the hair dryer category, which has thus far been dominated primarily by Dyson. Inside, the device utilizes Triple Airfluidics technology: a straight air duct minimizes airflow loss while simultaneously drawing in ambient air and distributing it over a wide area via a special nozzle. According to LG, this dries hair faster, even at lower temperatures. The HydroControl Dry function and the AirGlide effect are designed to provide additional heat protection for the hair and preserve moisture.

Technically, a sensor monitors the distance between the nozzle and the hair and automatically adjusts the temperature accordingly; according to reports, LG caps it at around 55 °C to prevent heat damage. After five minutes of inactivity, the AirDew automatically turns off; it can also be integrated into a smart home via LG ThinQ. For pet owners, there’s also a dedicated Pet Mode for drying fur.

Design, Weight, and Accessories

The ergonomic body weighs just 360 grams, which is roughly the weight of an empty coffee cup. A rotating joint on the plug (Rotating Plug) prevents the cord from twisting during styling. The magnetic attachments can be changed with one hand, and the device can be stored either in a space-saving mount or in the Luxury Combo Case, which doubles as a stand and storage box. We’re currently seeing this trend toward compact, lightweight home appliances in cordless vacuums as well, which we compared in a separate test.

LG SIGNATURE Range Hood: Downdraft with Sensor Control

The new LG SIGNATURE range hood is integrated directly into the countertop and silently draws fumes and odors downward, rather than venting them upward through a traditional hood. The so-called downdraft principle is specifically designed for kitchen islands and open floor plans that don’t require a bulky range hood above the stove. We also demonstrate how compact kitchen appliances can generally be practical for small apartments in our guide to the best air fryers.

Minimalist Design and Gesture Control

The minimalist front glass design blends discreetly into modern kitchen layouts and enhances the open feel of the space. When the range hood is not in use, it sits flush with the countertop. It is controlled via an integrated motion sensor that responds to hand gestures: This allows you to adjust the extraction power without having to touch the glass panel with dirty or wet hands.

LG at IFA 2026: Seven Home Appliances in the Spotlight

The AirDew and SIGNATURE range hoods are part of a seven-piece line of home appliances that LG is presenting at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The manufacturer was also honored at the trade show as the “Best Brand of IFA 2026.” You can read more about this and other new products in our separate article. Overall, LG emphasizes energy efficiency, ease of use, and space-saving design in its new appliances—features that are increasingly in demand given the trend toward smaller apartments in Europe. Competitors such as Hisense, Haier, and Changhong also showcased AI-powered home appliances and smart home systems at IFA 2026 at the same time.

Market Landscape: LG Challenges Dyson in the Hair Dryer Segment

The South Korean business newspaper Herald Business characterizes the AirDew as a direct challenge to Dyson, whose Supersonic hair dryer has led the premium category since 2016. An industry representative quoted by the newspaper sums it up this way: “Generating airflow with a motor is exactly what LG Electronics does best.” LG filed the AirDew word mark back in June 2026; the product is set to launch first in South Korea before being gradually introduced in other regions. LG has not yet announced whether or when the AirDew will come to Germany, nor what it will cost.

Availability and Price

LG has not yet commented on pricing or a specific launch date in Germany. It typically takes several months between the announcement at IFA and the market launch in Europe. We will update this article as soon as new information becomes available.

Conclusion

With the AirDew and the SIGNATURE downdraft range hood, LG is demonstrating at IFA 2026 how home appliances can be integrated more discreetly into smaller living spaces despite offering a wider range of features. While the LG hair dryer puts the company in direct competition with established brands like Dyson, the range hood stands out primarily for its space-saving downdraft design and touchless sensor controls. However, it will likely be some time before both devices are available here in Germany.
