Ikea Dirigera Hub: Smart home hub with Matter support available

By the end of May 2022, Ikea had unveiled its new smart home hub, Ikea Dirigera Hub. Now the control hub is available from the Swedish furniture retailer. It relies on the new Matter smart-home wireless standard and allows control of up to 100 smart-home devices.

Ikea Dirigera Hub available now

Small box with big power. Measuring just 112 mm in diameter and 27 mm in height, the new Ikea Dirigera Hub acts as a smart home hub, connecting up to 100 home devices in the new Matter standard.

Whether it’s smart lights, blinds, Wi-Fi speakers or air purifiers, all smart-home devices are said to be able to be connected and controlled by the new hub, all from a single smartphone app.

Settings can be combined and saved in different scenes. For example, you can create your own routines to prepare the smart home for certain situations – from a cozy atmosphere for dinner to certain routines when you leave or return home.

Cross-vendor thanks to Matter

Unlike Ikea’s previous Trådfri gateway, the new solution offers numerous advantages. With up to 100 controllable devices, the number just doubles.

The most important innovation, however, is support for the new Matter standard, which enables a cross-manufacturer combination of smart home solutions with just a single app. Matter supports Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung and Philips Hue, among others. Most recently, Eve Systems and TP-Link Tapo introduced their Matter solutions in detail.

For the Ikea Dirigera Hub, the manufacturer offers its own app (IKEA Home smart app) that controls products from the furniture store that are not yet Matter-enabled. Alternatively, operation is also possible with remote controls, quick keys, voice or motion control.

The app, as well as the products, will be gradually expanded and equipped with new features. In this way, it should also be possible to use non-Matter-capable solutions.

The Dirigera Hub has to be integrated into a Wi-Fi network. A corresponding cable for the connection to the router is included. For voice control, various assistants such as with Amazon Alexa, Apple Home (Siri) or Google Home (Google Assistant) are available.

Price and availability

The Ikea Dirigera Hub is available now in white color directly at Ikea Germany. The manufacturer’s RRP is 59.99 euros.
