Ikea Flamträd launches in Germany

Those who don’t own a 3D printer but still want to spruce up their own home with chic design elements now have the opportunity to do so, thanks to Ikea. The Ikea Flamträd range, which includes decorative items made by 3D printers, is now available in the furniture store’s German online store.

“This three-dimensional decoration takes 3D technology to a new level and is guaranteed to catch the eye,” the Swedes’ website says of the new objects. The series includes, for example, heads or hands that show different gestures and that in the color schemes black and white.

Looking at the design of Ikea Flamträd, it quickly becomes obvious that here is printed using the SLS process with polyamide. This process for 3D printing with selective laser sintering (SLS) has already made significant progress towards mass production in recent years, but all objects are still unique. Thus, no two Flamträd decorative objects are alike.

Prices range from 29.99 euros for the smaller deco hands and 49.99 euros for the decorative head, which is suitable, for example, as a holder for hats, caps or headsets.

Ikea: Products from the 3D printer since 2017

However, the new decorative objects do not represent Ikea’s first experiments with 3D printing. Back in 2017, there were very similar decorative objects from the 3D printer with the Omedelbar series. Since March 2019, ThisAbles.com has also been a special project from Ikea that enables people with special needs to experience an improvement in quality of life through Ikea products.
