IKEA introduces gaming collection

Last September, the furniture store IKEA announced its intention to expand its participation in the gaming market. Now – partly together with Asus – a comprehensive collection of gaming furniture has been developed and presented. The products should also be available in this country before the end of the year.

From gaming chair to desk to cup holder

With its gaming assortment IKEA would like to make to all appearances a complete equipment possible. For example, the products now presented include an electrically height-adjustable desk, a gaming chair, wall mounts for peripherals and a cup holder. IKEA is thus not only focusing on furniture, but also on other accessories that gamers can put to good use. More detailed information on the individual products is currently not yet available.

Available from October

In this country, the gaming products now unveiled should be available from October 2021. They are already available in China. The electrically height-adjustable desk with replaceable plastic top costs the equivalent of around 550 euros there, making it strikingly affordable. In this country, too, IKEA will presumably continue its usual pricing policy and want to offer the products as cheaply as possible. The market launch in Japan is scheduled for May.

Growing gaming market

IKEA’s entry into the gaming business, meanwhile, is symptomatic of the industry’s tremendous growth. According to market research firm Newzoo, 2.8 billion people worldwide played games last year – that’s a sizeable chunk of the earth’s population. For a long time now, it has not only been specialized companies in the gaming industry that have wanted to profit from this enormous potential, but also other technology and furniture companies, which are now creating increasingly targeted special offers tailored to the needs of gamers.
