Ikea Symfonisk: picture frame with integrated speaker to come

Ikea has enjoyed great popularity with its chic Symfonisk series bookshelf speakers and lamps. Now the Swedish furniture store wants to expand the audio furniture series even further. In collaboration with the sound experts from Sonos, a picture frame with an integrated speaker is likely to go on sale. The publication of these plans is probably more by accident than on purpose.

Ikea obviously wanted to present its planned picture frame to the public in other ways. Instead, one found on the US-American website of the furniture giant briefly a corresponding product page. This showed a shapely picture frame, which is supposed to score with integrated speakers.

After the error was noticed, the product page was taken offline again by the furniture store. Now a few questions arise. On the one hand, fans of the Symfonisk series want to know if there is still an official announcement planned. But much more important is the question of whether a release in Germany is also planned.

What we know so far

From the product page of the picture frame could be found some exciting information about the (hopefully soon) upcoming piece of audio furniture. So this is also created in collaboration with the sound experts from Sonos. Not only a pure picture frame is to be sold. The set also includes a corresponding fabric picture. Behind this is supposed to be the centerpiece, the speaker. If you interpret the product image correctly, it doesn’t seem to be a classic picture frame, but rather a full-fledged picture.

Here you should have the choice between different motives. This means that you will probably not be able to insert your own pictures. However, these are only speculations. After all, not only meaningful technical details are missing, but also suitable pictures. Ikea’s website only mentioned that the picture frame can either be leaned against the wall or hung on it. The frame itself is to be offered in white and black.

Know-How from Sonos

When it comes to WiFi speakers, Sonos is still considered the industry leader. Accordingly, the network speaker experts do not seem to make any compromises when it comes to the picture frame. For example, owners of one or more Apple devices will be happy about the integration of AirPlay 2. Pairing to other Symfonisk devices or even Sonos speakers should also be possible without any problems.

Compact dimensions

Similar to the small shelf speakers of the series, the Picture Frame is also supposed to impress with compact dimensions – at least if you believe the product page. Thus, Ikea’s “Picture Frame with Wi-Fi Speaker” called work of art is supposed to measure 55 cm x 40 cm x 5 cm. The website lists an MSRP of 200 US dollars. It is still uncertain if and at what price the sonorous picture frame will be launched in Germany.
