Today, September 10, 2026, Insta360 unveiled the Insta360 Luna Pro: the more affordable version of the Luna gimbal camera series developed in collaboration with Leica. Instead of the dual-lens system found in the more expensive Luna Ultra, the Luna Pro features a single Leica lens, but still offers 8K video, AI-powered tracking, and the series’ distinctive detachable display. The camera is now available for 549 euros at the Insta360 Store, on Amazon, and at select retailers.

Insta360 Luna Pro vs. Luna Ultra: Here’s the Difference

Anyone who owns the Luna Ultra (our review) is already familiar with the concept: a compact gimbal camera with Leica optics, a detachable display, and AI tracking, designed for vloggers and content creators who want to shoot spontaneously without a tripod. The Luna Pro retains this basic design but does away with the Ultra’s second telephoto camera, which is responsible for optical zoom. As a result, the lossless zoom shrinks from 6x to 2x, the weight drops slightly to around 218 grams, and the price falls significantly: While the Luna Ultra starts at 729 euros in this country, the Luna Pro is available starting at 549 euros.

The first details about the Luna Pro had already leaked in mid-August ahead of its Chinese launch, with a price equivalent to around 435 euros. With today’s official announcement, Insta360 has now confirmed the global launch, including pricing and availability, for Germany as well.

AI Features and Workflow: What the Gimbal Camera Offers Creators

Under the hood is a dual-AI chip architecture consisting of a dedicated imaging chip and a 4-nm flagship chip, which, according to Insta360, ensures better image quality and smarter recording directly on the device. For short-form content, the portrait-oriented video is particularly interesting: The Luna Pro records 4K at 30 fps with 6K oversampling in portrait mode, delivering clips that are ready to share directly on Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms. Those who prefer to shoot in the classic 16:9 aspect ratio can opt for 8K footage with Dolby Vision or 4K120p and 1080p240p slow-motion.

For post-production, the 10-bit I-Log mode with 14 stops of dynamic range preserves more detail in highlights and shadows; ACES workflows are also supported. A built-in timecode is designed to facilitate the synchronization of multiple cameras; in addition, there are optimized workflows for Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as AI-powered editing features directly within the app.

Design and Operation: Detachable Display, Twist-to-Shoot, and POV Tracking

The most striking design feature of the Luna series remains the detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen, which Insta360 touts as the first of its kind in the industry. It can be detached from the camera and then used as a monitor or remote control, which is especially handy when shooting from a distance or at unusual camera angles. To start recording, simply swipe across the screen (“Slide-to-start”); alternatively, the camera can also be triggered with a twisting motion (“Twist-to-shoot”). Both features are designed to reduce the time between pulling out the camera and actually starting to record.

For first-person perspective shots, there’s a POV head tracker; NFC enables quick pairing with the Insta360 app; and a direct connection to the microphones in the Insta360 Mic series allows you to enhance the audio with minimal effort.

Price, Availability, and Competition

The Insta360 Luna Pro will be available worldwide starting September 10, 2026, through the Insta360 Store, Amazon, and select retailers; the standard version starts at 549 euros. It comes in Midnight Black and Astral White. Insta360 is clearly positioning the camera against DJI: Even before the launch, Insta360 had emphasized that the Luna Pro delivers full 4K resolution in portrait mode, while its direct competitor, the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 (review), is limited to 3K in that mode. For anyone who edits their clips directly in portrait orientation for Instagram or TikTok, this is a detail with real practical value.

Insta360 Global Awards 2026 supported by Leica

Alongside the Luna Pro, Insta360 has opened the submission period for the Insta360 Global Awards 2026 supported by Leica. Creators can submit their own photo and video work created with Insta360 or Antigravity devices until October 31. The winners will be announced on November 30; prizes include video and photography awards in categories ranging from monthly awards to annual grand prizes, each worth over $7,500.

Conclusion

With the Insta360 Luna Pro, the Luna series gains a more affordable entry-level model that forgoes the Ultra’s second telephoto sensor but makes virtually no compromises in terms of stabilization, AI features, color profiles, and the detachable display. For vloggers and creators who primarily shoot wide-angle footage in everyday life and don’t necessarily need optical zoom, the Luna Pro is likely to be the more practical choice compared to the Luna Ultra, which costs 180 euros more.
