The Insta360 Luna Pro is a new 8K gimbal camera with Leica optics, a detachable 2-inch OLED display, and AI-powered tracking, positioned as a more affordable single-lens version of the Luna Ultra, which was unveiled this summer. Insta360 initially launched the camera exclusively in China; a global release, including Germany, is still pending.

With this model, Insta360 is positioning itself directly against the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and aims primarily to appeal to vloggers and creators looking for a compact, stabilized camera without a separate gimbal.

In a nutshell:

  • 1-inch sensor with Leica optics (20 mm, f/1.8), 8K30p video with Dolby Vision
  • Detachable 2-inch OLED display that also serves as a remote control (range up to 20 m)
  • 3-axis gimbal stabilization, Deep Tracking 5.0 with AI tracking
  • Price in China: approximately 435 euros; global launch and release date in Germany still to be announced

Technical Specifications of the Insta360 Luna Pro

At the heart of the Luna Pro is a 1-inch sensor paired with a 20-mm lens (f/1.8 aperture) developed in collaboration with Leica. The camera records video in 8K at 30 fps with Dolby Vision support, plus a 10-bit I-LOG mode with 14 stops of dynamic range for color grading in post-production. The Luna Pro captures photos at 37 megapixels, along with 360-degree panoramas.

Detachable OLED Display as a Unique Selling Point

The most striking feature of the Luna Pro is the 2-inch OLED display, which can be detached from the camera body and then serves as a remote control with HD video transmission over distances of up to 20 meters. It might sound like a nice gimmick at first, but it’s actually quite practical in everyday use: When you mount the camera on a tripod or gimbal arm, you can see a live feed of what the camera is capturing on the display, so you don’t have to keep walking back to check the frame. Combined with the 3-axis gimbal and the AI-powered object tracking feature Deep Tracking 5.0, Insta360 is clearly targeting solo creators who want to film themselves hands-free.

Insta360 Luna Pro vs. Luna Ultra: What the More Affordable Model Is Missing

The Luna Pro is the stripped-down version of the Insta360 Luna Ultra, which has been available since June 2026 and sells for 729 euros and up in this country. While the Ultra features a dual-lens system with an additional telephoto sensor and offers up to 6x lossless zoom or 12x digital zoom, the Pro has to make do with a single lens and 2x lossless zoom or 4x digital zoom. According to the manufacturer, both models are identical in terms of video and photo resolution, color profiles, and dynamic range; the Pro primarily saves on the cost of the second lens and is therefore slightly lighter.

Insta360 emphasizes the close, long-standing collaboration with Leica across the Luna series—a partnership both companies have already demonstrated with the Leica Lux Grip.

Insta360 Luna Pro vs. DJI Osmo Pocket 4

However, the Luna Pro’s real competitor isn’t its own Ultra model, but the DJI Osmo Pocket 4. Insta360 touts a tangible technical advantage here: While the Osmo Pocket 4 is limited to a maximum of 3K in portrait orientation, the Luna Pro is said to deliver full 4K resolution even when shooting vertically. For creators who primarily shoot in portrait orientation for Instagram Reels, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts, this could be the deciding factor. Whether this advantage holds up in real-world testing remains to be seen in a direct comparison of the two cameras.

Price and Availability

Insta360 initially launched the Luna Pro on August 20, 2026, exclusively in China, where the standard package costs the equivalent of about 435 euros (3,399 yuan). Insta360 has not yet announced a date for the global launch or a price for Germany and the EU. However, given the price difference compared to the Luna Ultra (729 euros), it’s safe to assume that the Pro model will be priced significantly lower once it becomes available here. The camera is available in Star Black and Moonlight White.

Those who don’t want to wait for the global release can also check out the Insta360 X6, which is already available in Germany; as a 360-degree action camera, it features a different form factor but comes from the same manufacturer.

Conclusion

With the Luna Pro, Insta360 is launching a more affordable entry-level model in its new gimbal camera series, which, on paper, offers much of what sets the Luna Ultra apart: 8K video with Leica optics, a detachable OLED display, and AI-powered tracking—just with one lens instead of two. Whether it’s ultimately worth it depends entirely on the price in Germany, which Insta360 has kept under wraps so far. We’ll update this article as soon as a global launch date is confirmed.
