The transfer is initiated during the setup of an Android device and takes place via a direct Wi-Fi connection between the two smartphones.
Among other things, photos, contacts, saved passwords, text messages, notes and – if available – installed apps can be transferred. The phone number can also be transferred when using an eSIM. For the market, this means a lower hurdle when switching platforms and potentially more competition in the premium segment.
In addition, iOS 26.3 expands support for third-party hardware. In future, Bluetooth earphones from other manufacturers can be paired automatically as soon as they are switched on in the vicinity – similar to what was previously only possible with AirPods. There is also an opening in the wearables sector: notifications can now be forwarded to third-party smartwatches. In addition to the structural changes, iOS 26.3 also brings adjustments in the area of data protection. Users of iPhones with a Deutsche Telekom tariff will be able to prevent the network operator from tracking their location very precisely. Apple is thus strengthening transparency and control over location data – an issue that is subject to increasing regulatory scrutiny in Europe.

It seems plausible that Apple does not prominently highlight the more extensive changes in the official release notes, as they are primarily regulatory in nature and concern strategic aspects of the ecosystem.
