iPhone 13 Pro does not offer noise cancellation during calls

Apple has surprisingly confirmed that the iPhone 13 Pro does not offer noise cancellation during calls. This was still used in the iPhone 12 and the predecessor generations. It is not known why the improvement in voice quality has been dropped.

Meanwhile, Apple has confirmed what several users have suspected for months on Reddit and the Apple Support Forum: The iPhone 13 Pro does without noise cancellation during calls. This could be switched on in the iPhone 12 and its predecessors in the system settings to use the additional microphones of the smartphone to detect and filter out background noise.

As Apple has now confirmed to a reader of 9to5Mac, this feature is conspicuous by its absence on the current top model iPhone 13 Pro, as well as the entire 13 series. Apple did not provide an explanation for the omission of the feature.

At least the “Voice Isolation” feature can be used to remedy the situation. This can be activated via the control center, but not all apps support it. Alternatively, many in-ear headphones offer their own noise suppression in the microphones. For example, the AirPods Pro (our review) or the AirPods Max and many other TWS in-ears.
