There are already some differences between the normal and the Pro models in the iPhone 14 generation. According to rumors, this jump could be even bigger in the upcoming generation. iPhone 15 rumors talk about faster chip, more RAM and many other differences.
iPhone 15 rumors: Only the Pro will really be new?
The iPhone 14 Pro (our review) is an excellent smartphone and, unlike the regular iPhone 14, relies on a faster SoC and better cameras, among other things. According to current iPhone 15 rumors, this leap could be even bigger in the new generation.
According to TrendForce, only the Pro model will come with the new Apple A17 Bionic, which is manufactured in a 3 nm process. It offers improved energy efficiency in addition to more performance. But that’s not all: the working memory is supposed to increase to 8 GB, also only for the Pro model – Apple currently only uses 6 gigabytes.
The normal iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max will use the A16 chip with 6 GB of RAM instead. We will apparently also see differences in the USB-C port, which is considered to be secured within the new iPhone generation.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo (via Twitter), the Pro variants will rely on fast USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, while the normal models will have to make do with USB 2.0.
Camera updates and omission of physical buttons
Back in October, Kuo speculated in an iPhone 15 rumor that the next-generation Pro models will do away with physical buttons. Accordingly, the volume rocker and power button are to rely on solid-state buttons, like the home button in the iPhone 7, 8, SE2 and SE3. On the other hand, everything will remain the same for the normal iPhone 15.
Differences are also planned for the camera. The iPhone 15 Pro will have a main camera with a new 8P lens. Additional lenses are used here, which allow the lens to be corrected better – this benefits the quality of the photos and videos.
And the periscope camera with zoom will apparently only be used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra, as it could also be called. Here, an optical zoom of up to 10x is on the cards.
As Nikkei Asia reports, Sony Semiconductor Solutions has also developed a “groundbreaking” new camera sensor, which is to be used in the iPhone 15 series, for example. Possibly also only in the Pro and Ultra. Among other things, it is supposed to be able to absorb twice as much light and therefore noticeably improve the dynamic range.
As always, the iPhone 15 rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. However, there are many indications that the leap to the Pro and Ultra models in fall 2023 will be even bigger than this year.
