IPhone 16: Apple starts selling original spare parts

Apple has announced that original spare parts for the iPhone 16, Plus, Pro and Pro Max are now available via the Self-Service Repair Store. The company is thus continuing a trend that gives tech-savvy users the opportunity to carry out repairs themselves.

The most important facts in brief

  • Spare parts such as battery, display and camera now available in the Apple Store.
  • Tool kits can be borrowed for a short time.
  • Prices vary depending on model and spare part.

Detailed information on repairing the iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 has been on sale for almost two months now. If owners of an iPhone 16 (€ 867.00), iPhone 16 Plus (€ 1,089.00), iPhone 16 Pro (€ 1,199.00) and iPhone 16 Pro Max (€ 1,449.00) suffer damage to their device, they can carry out repairs themselves. Apple is continuing its principle of self-service repairs introduced in 2022. Apple enables smartphone owners to replace common components.

The online store offers a selection of original parts, including the display, battery, microphone, rear glass and SIM tray. For DIY repairs, tools can be rented for seven days at a price of 54.74 euros, including shipping. This makes it easier, especially for those who do not have their own special tools. Nevertheless, the repair remains challenging.

Prices for DIY repairs

Apple’s official instructions are helpful, but complex. The display and battery in particular require special tools that professional repair stores also use. In terms of cost, the display for the latest iPhone is available for 339 euros, while the price for the display of the latest Pro Max rises to 488.99 euros. The battery replacement ranges between 109 and 135 euros.

The assessment by iFixit deserves special mention. The latest iPhone receives a score of seven out of ten for its comparatively good repairability. This means that the tech company has improved significantly in terms of repairability compared to previous models. This makes it clear that Apple is apparently no longer being obstructive when it comes to repairs on its own, but is acting in a much more customer-friendly manner than before.
