A foldable mid-range smartphone in the A series? That could possibly become reality soon. According to current rumors, the Korean manufacturer is planning a Samsung Galaxy A-Foldable that is to be positioned on the market for under 800 Euros.
Is the Samsung Galaxy A-Foldable coming?
As reported by the Korean website ETNews, Samsung is planning a Samsung Galaxy A-Foldable in the mid-range segment, which should make foldable smartphones affordable. There is talk of a price tag of less than one million South Korean won, which is the equivalent of just under 738 euros. Plus value-added tax.
Accordingly, Samsung plans to establish the successful Galaxy A series on the foldable market as well and to follow the success of the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 models, which will get successors this fall. The only difference is that the price is significantly lower than that of the Z Foldables.
The launch is expected to happen as early as 2024. Whether the Samsung Galaxy A foldables will then also be released in the fall remains to be seen. The stated goal is to further expand the position as market leader in the foldable smartphone sector and to increase the share of foldables due to the affordable price.
Meanwhile, other manufacturers have also discovered the foldable market for themselves. These include the innovative Huawei Mate Xs2, the Vivo X Fold with powerful Zeiss cameras, or the Motorla Razr, which will be offered in a third generation later this year.
Scrapes on technology
Of course, for the price called, some of the premium features of the Galaxy Z foldable series will have to be dropped. Where exactly Samsung will apply the red line is currently unknown. Presumably, a cheaper SoC will be installed. The secondary display on the outside could possibly be omitted as well.
With the Samsung Galaxy A foldables, the manufacturer plans to bring the market share of foldable smartphones into a double-digit range. As popular as the Z Flip and Z Fold models are: The devices have not been real box-office hits so far and lost value rapidly. Particularly because there were more quality problems in the first and second generation, prospective buyers were rather skeptical.
Basically, Samsung Galaxy smartphones of the A series like the A53 5G or A13 sell much better worldwide than the flagship models of the S series. You can currently already get the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G for under 700 Euros, the MSRP at release was 1,049 Euros and, compared to the Z Flip 2, has already been significantly lowered.
With a potential Galaxy A foldable series in 2024 at a comparatively low price, Samsung could actually establish foldable smartphones on the broad market. However, we will probably have to wait for the successors Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 until the end of August.
