JBL has unveiled two new Bluetooth speakers, the Xtreme 5 and the Go 5, which will go on sale from April 15, 2026. Compared to their predecessors, both models are said to deliver significantly more bass and include AI-supported sound optimization and ambient lighting. We summarize what the new JBL speakers can do.

JBL Xtreme 5: Powerful sound with AI Sound Boost

The JBL Xtreme 5 is the successor to the popular JBL Xtreme 4 and aims to score points with a revised sound concept. JBL promises around 10 percent deeper bass and an overall higher volume than its predecessor. This is thanks to a new acoustic architecture consisting of two tweeters and a subwoofer with increased output power. In mains operation, the woofer delivers 90 watts RMS and the tweeters 20 watts RMS each, while in battery operation they deliver 60 and 15 watts RMS respectively.

A new feature is the AI Sound Boost function, which is designed to reduce distortion at high volumes. There is also the Smart EQ mode: this uses artificial intelligence to automatically optimize the sound settings depending on the content – for example, whether music or a podcast is currently playing. This should always ensure the best possible listening experience.

Lighting, battery and robustness

The Xtreme 5 features the so-called JBL Edge Light UI – ambient lighting with six different modes, including Freeze, Bounce, Trim, Switch, Loop and Neon. The LEDs also provide visual indications of the battery charge status, Bluetooth pairing or Auracast connection.

JBL specifies a battery life of up to 24 hours, which can be extended by a further four hours to a total of 28 hours with the Playtime Boost EQ. The speaker is protected against water and dust in accordance with IP68 and is also said to be drop-proof. A practical carrying strap and feet are also included. Lossless audio is even possible via USB-C, and mobile devices can be charged thanks to the integrated power bank.

As with other current JBL products, the Xtreme 5 also supports Auracast, which allows several compatible speakers to be connected together wirelessly. Alternatively, stereo pairing of two Xtreme 5s is also possible via the JBL Portable app. The JBL Xtreme 5 will be released on April 15, 2026 in the colors black, blue and camouflage at an RRP of 349.99 euros.

JBL Go 5: Ten colors and AirTouch stereo

In addition to the Xtreme 5, JBL has also announced the Go 5 for the European market. The ultra-compact Bluetooth speaker was previously presented in China and will now be available in Germany on April 15, 2026. The Go 5 is available in ten different color variants and costs 49.99 euros (RRP).

JBL also promises deeper bass with the Go 5 than its predecessor, the Go 4. Under the hood is a 45 mm driver with 4.8 watts RMS output power – an increase of around 14 percent compared to the Go 4. The frequency range extends from 100 Hz to 19 kHz. The Go 5 uses Bluetooth 6.0 for wireless connectivity and supports the SBC, AAC and LC3 codecs.

AirTouch and USB-C audio

AirTouch is a particularly clever feature: two Go 5s can be automatically connected to form a stereo pair simply by holding them together – without the need for an app or manual setup. The small speaker also supports Auracast for connecting multiple speakers.

Like its big brother, the Go 5 also offers USB-C audio with integrated DAC for lossless playback when connected to a laptop or smartphone via cable. The battery life is up to eight hours, and up to ten hours with Playtime Boost EQ. The Go 5 is also IP68-certified and therefore ideally equipped for outdoor use.

JBL also emphasizes the sustainability aspect of both new speakers. Both the Xtreme 5 and the Go 5 are manufactured using PVC-free, recycled plastic and fabric. The driver magnet is also made from recycled material. The packaging is printed on FSC-certified paper with soy ink.

With the JBL Xtreme 5 and the Go 5, JBL is updating two of its most popular Bluetooth speaker series. Both models promise deeper bass, improved sound characteristics and new smart features such as AI Sound Boost and Smart EQ.
