Jeep Avenger: First all-electric SUV from the brand unveiled

With the Jeep Avenger, the manufacturer has presented its first all-electric SUV, which will be positioned below the Renegade from the beginning of 2023. Good sales are hoped for in Europe in particular.

Jeep Avenger in detail

Meanwhile, almost all models from manufacturer Jeep are partially electric on the road, but there has never been a pure electric SUV. This is changing with the new Jeep Avenger, which was presented at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. The name was taken without further ado from the sedan of the company’s sister Dodge from the Stellantis family, which produced its Avenger between 2007 and 2014.

With the Jeep Avenger, the manufacturer wants to finally shake off the “gas guzzler” image attached to it. The city SUV is scheduled to be launched in Europe at the beginning of 2023, with the first edition being called the Jeep Avenger Electric 1st EDITION.

With a length of 4.08 meters, the “Avenger” is indeed comparatively compact and relies on a fresh design that should actually appeal in Europe. It offers striking shapes, large 18-inch alloy wheels and a brawny appearance that is also backed up by 360° body protection.

Thanks to the signature seven-slot grille, contrasting black roof and full LED headlights front and rear, the Avenger should be recognizable at first glance.

156 hp, 400 km range

From a purely technical standpoint, the Jeep Avenger is comparatively restrained. With 115 kW or 156 hp, the new electric motor on the front axle delivers just as much as its corporate brother DS 3 E-TENSE or the Peugeot e-308 and e-308 SW models. No wonder, since it uses the Stellantis Group’s EMP2 platform.

However, Jeep does not provide details on acceleration and top speed, and an all-wheel-drive version is to follow at a later date. But it does mention the battery and the range. The battery has a capacity of 54 kilowatt hours, which should enable a combined range of around 400 kilometers according to WLTP. In the city, even up to 550 km should be possible.

It can also be fast-charged at up to 100 kWh, with 30 minutes on a 100 kWh SC fast charge being enough to charge the battery to 80 percent. With a weight of 1,540 kilograms, however, the Jeep Avenger is truly no lightweight.

Interior: Puristic and well thought-out

When it comes to interior design, however, the Jeep Avenger tends to focus on purism. According to the manufacturer, the city SUV combines “the feeling of freedom with high functionality and connectivity”. The instrument cluster is fully digital, while the center console also features a 10.25-inch display complete with Uconnect infotainment system.

Smartphones can be charged via the inductive charging pad, while the yellow-and-black dashboard looks quite beefy. Added to that is “ambient lighting that translates feelings into colors” – though Jeep doesn’t reveal what that means specifically.

The storage areas in the dashboard, the center console or in the doors, which offer plenty of space for souvenirs, also prove to be practical.

Considering the compact design, the trunk capacity is surprisingly generous. A full 380 liters are offered, which is even more than in the larger Jeep Renegade, but not a miracle of space.

And a Jeep wouldn’t be a Jeep, even if it was a city SUV, if it wasn’t off-road capable. The Avenger’s Selec-Terrain and Hill Descent Control technologies make sure of that, adapting to all weather conditions.

Prices and Availability

The Jeep Avenger electric 1st EDITION is scheduled to start production before the end of December 2022. After all electric premiums are deducted, the price is expected to be around 30,000 euros before the official market launch in early 2023. More details are available on the official Jeep website, where pre-registration is also now open.
