Jiushark M.2 Three: Huge active cooler for M.2 SSDs presented

Summer is here and the temperatures are rising. Even in your own computer. Especially when it is equipped with high-end components. If you want to cool your M.2 SSD particularly efficiently, you can now use the Jiushark M.2 Three active cooler. At least, if the corresponding space is available.

Jiushark M.2 Three: The tower cooler with heat pipe for SSDs

Current high-end SSDs generate more and more heat, which could become a problem in the long run. Controller manufacturer Phison is also aware of this, whose CTO already commented on air-cooled SSDs in April 2022.

A corresponding active cooling solution for the small storage solutions is now available in the form of the Jiushark M.2 Three to keep the heat of current PCIe 4.0 and future PCIe 5.0 SSDs in check.

As Tom’s Hardware reports, the active cooler relies on an 8.2-centimeter-high, 3.5-cm-thick tower that looks reminiscent of modern CPU coolers. The only difference is that it is designed for M.2 SSDs in the 2280 form factor. The tower can optionally be equipped with an in-house 6610 fan with a diameter of 60 mm and thus has a length of 7.45 cm.

It spins at up to 3,000 rpm and is said to provide the SSD with fresh air at a fairly quiet 25.4 dB. The heatsink itself is made of aluminum and features 27 cooling fins. It is also supposed to be directly equipped with thermal paste.

Lightweight and powerful

Despite robust aluminum, nickel and stainless steel construction, the entire design of the Jiushark M.2 Three is said to weigh just 113 grams. By comparison, a budget CPU cooler, such as the SilentiumPC Spartan 5, weighs in at 585 grams.

According to the manufacturer, the active SSD cooler in combination with the active fan should be able to reduce the temperatures of the memory by over 50 percent, depending on the selected operating mode.

Price and Availability

Der Jiushark M.2 Three wird aktuell lediglich über den chinesischen Online-Marktplatz Taobao angeboten. Two variants are offered, the uncoated basic version is the equivalent of around 9 euros, while “graphene black” variant comes in at just under 14 euros.  Whether the SSD cooler will also be offered in this country remains to be seen. An import is for example possible via Superbuy possible, as the cooler is already listed.
