Kia EV6 GT: Price of the electric sports car is fixed

The Kia EV6 already convinced e-car fans with a great value for money a few months ago. Now the sports version of the South Korean car, the Kia EV6 GT, will soon be on sale. For a price of just under 70,000 euros, you get a lot on offer here.

Start of production in September 2022

When the South Koreans first unveiled their Kia EV6 GT, experts agreed that there was a promising sports-class e-car coming our way. Now, Kia has officially unveiled the price list and the competition is unlikely to be thrilled. For example, the automaker wants to charge just 69,990 euros for its fully equipped vehicle as the company itself announced. In view of the whopping performance, that’s a fair price at which other sporty electric cars can’t compete. Furthermore, the company announced that they plan to start production of the Kia EV6 GT in September. If everything goes according to plan, the first vehicles should then be delivered this year.

A lot of performance at a fair price

A look at the technical data of the Kia EV6 GT makes the hearts of sports car fans beat faster. For example, the electric sports car is said to have 430 kW or 585 hp of power. This is supposed to catapult it from 0 to 100 km/h within 3.5 seconds. Furthermore, Kia specifies a top speed of 260 km/h. However, you shouldn’t necessarily drive at this speed if you want to achieve the stated maximum range of 424 km. The battery has a capacity of 77.4 kWh. But not only under the hood everything seems to be right. The features that come standard with the Kia EV6 GT also sound promising. There are a lot of bells and whistles like adaptive LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, a blind spot assistant, an adaptive cruise control system, head-up display, and so on.

The battery technology Kia is relying on here also sounds exciting. The 800-volt battery should not only make it possible to charge from 10 to 80 percent within 18 minutes. On top of that, it should be possible to precondition the battery. This means that the car wants to tie the battery power to the navigation system. This, in combination with the integrated heat pump, should ensure the most efficient battery operation and thus plenty of range. Since the Kia EV6 GT has two electric motors that can complete 21,000 revolutions per minute, the vehicle naturally also needs a customized chassis. Here, the South Koreans promise an extensive overhaul that should ensure maximum control even in tight corners.

Special driving modes in the Kia EV6 GT

That it is a sports car, of course, a special sports mode may not be missing. This is to come along in the Kia EV6 GT in the form of the GT driving mode. According to Kia, it is supposed to provide a “thrilling driving experience”. The electric motors, brakes, steering and chassis are adjusted to make you feel like a race driver. The drift mode sounds particularly exciting because it is rather exotic. Here, professionals can switch off a large part of the stability assistants and thus let the tail swerve to perform real drifts. To avoid activating this mode by mistake, you’ll have to put in a bit more effort here. According to Kia, you first have to deactivate the stability programs. Then you have to switch to GT mode. Now it’s necessary to pull the shift paddles on the steering wheel for three seconds. And then it’s: welcome to drift mode.

In addition to all the points that Kia wants to have revised compared to the standard model, recuperation is also said to have been adapted and strengthened. The focus on recuperation is somewhat reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan. The Stuttgart-based company with a long tradition of making fine cars only revealed the secret behind the strength of its in-house recuperation system in June this year. It all sounds really promising, what Kia has in store with its EV6 GT. Now the price seems to be right, too. Let’s just hope that the sports car is spared the brake problems that the standard version of the Kia EV6 had to suffer from.
