Kia EV9: First look at the body and interior of the E-SUV

The South Korean manufacturer made a breakthrough on the local electric market with the Kia EV6. Now the company wants to take things up a notch. And that in every respect. The now announced Kia EV9 (official website) comes in large format.

Kia EV9 comes with three rows of seats

The cat is out of the bag. Kia has presented the EV9, its next vehicle with an all-electric drive. This is visually quite different from the Kia EV6, which will go on sale in Germany in October 2021. Based on the first pictures that the South Korean carmaker has now published, we can finally take a look at the interior and the body. It becomes clear that the EV9 will be a true SUV in large format.

But it’s not just the sheer difference in size that stands out in direct comparison to the EV6. While the much smaller electric car in the compact class relies on plenty of curves, the large E-SUV uses rather clear edges. The voluminous body naturally results in a lot of space. The electric car, which is based on Kia’s own E-GMP platform, comes with a choice of six or seven seats in the interior.

Kia wants the floor of the interior to be flat to provide as much comfort as possible. So it’s not surprising that the car’s seats can even be reclined into a reclining position. However, this is not meant to indicate the possibility of fully autonomous driving, but rather to invite the driver to relax during the charging break. The extent to which the position of the individual seats can be adjusted, however, is also said to depend on the vehicle configuration.

Alternatively, it should also be possible to turn the seats behind the driver and front passenger 180 degrees without further ado. This is particularly interesting for families traveling with several children and want to create a “bus flair”. It could also pay off for a camping trip. The good equipment of the third row of seats is astonishing. Since charging options for smartphones and co. as well as cup holders are also supposed to be located here, you probably don’t have to do without anything in the last row either.

Panoramic display with a total of three screens

The first row of seats, in turn, looks quite down-to-earth and less futuristic than in many competitor models. The large panorama display that the manufacturer has installed here is particularly striking. In the Kia EV9, this is supposed to adorn the entire dashboard. It consists of a total of three screens, which measure 2x 12.3 inches and 1x 5 inches. In view of the variety of screens, it is not surprising that Kia primarily wants to rely on touch control. Tesla sends its regards. Each of the three displays is assigned its own task. For example, the one on the right is supposed to serve navigation.

Presentation at the end of March

The first information already makes us want more. Especially on the technical data, of course, we would all like to know more. So far, Kia has only commented on the range. This is supposed to be up to 540 km for the Kia EV9. The fast charging function also sounds exciting. The e-SUV is supposed to be able to collect enough energy for another 100 km within six minutes. According to the manufacturer, however, an extensive presentation on the vehicle with many details will follow in March. We will keep you up to date.
