Kindle Scribe: Amazon’s new e-book reader with pen

Amazon has introduced a new e-book reader with a particularly large display. However, the special feature of the Kindle Scribe is also the pen, which you can use to take digital notes. Just a few days ago, Amazon introduced the Amazon Kindle and Kindle Kids 2022.

Kindle Scribe unveiled

The Kindle Scribe marks the largest e-book reader in Amazon’s portfolio. It features a 10.2-inch e-ink display (Amazon again calls it a Paperwhite display) that resolves at 300 ppi in black and white only.

In dark environments, the display is automatically illuminated to improve readability. Another special feature is the input via pen. The large display offers plenty of space for writing notes and keeping diaries. Font size and page margins can be adjusted at any time.

The pen is supposed to fit in the hand like a normal pen and, together with the Kindle Scribe interface, provide a writing experience that is very similar to paper. It can also be used to make handwritten notes within the e-books.

The eReader offers various templates, such as lined paper, white paper, to-do lists, and more. You can organize your notes into folders and search for titles of your notebooks for quick access later. Starting in 2023, notes will also be able to be used in the Kindle app. They will also be stored in the cloud.

Two pens are available

There are two different pens to choose from with the Kindle Scribe. Both offer different stroke widths and can be used as highlighters to mark important areas. Notes can be easily erased.

The premium stylus also offers an eraser and a button that lets you seamlessly switch between pen, highlighter, and other functions. The standard model does without both options.

However, both variants require no charging and are ready to use without setup. They can be magnetically docked directly to the Scribe.

The Kindle Scribe measures 196 mm x 229 mm and is just 5.8 mm thick. Both pens are 161.8 mm long and 8.4 mm wide. A choice of 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory is offered in the 433 gram e-book reader.

A single battery charge lasts up to 12 weeks, based on half an hour of reading per day with wireless off and screen brightness 13. For writing, a single battery charge lasts up to 3 weeks, based on half an hour of writing per day with wireless off and screen brightness 13.

Price and Availability

The Kindle Scribe is now available for pre-order directly from Amazon and is scheduled to ship in December 2022. Pricing starts at 369.99 euros for the model with 16 GB of storage and standard stylus. 32 GB is only available in combination with the premium stylus, where prices are 419.99 Euros, while 64 GB is offered for 449.99 Euros.
