Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2: New USB flash drive with XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption unveiled

Data security is playing an increasingly important role in both private and professional environments. Portable storage solutions such as USB flash drives must therefore not only be fast, but above all reliably protected. With the Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2, Kingston is now introducing a new generation of secure USB storage devices. The stick combines hardware-based encryption, protection mechanisms against known attacks and ease of use in everyday life. The aim is to better protect sensitive data on the move without having to install additional software.

  • Hardware encryption with XTS-AES 256-bit and FIPS-197 certification
  • Protection against BadUSB attacks and brute force password attacks
  • Support for administrator and user passwords with complex passphrases
  • USB 3.2 Gen 1 speed with up to 145 MB/s read speed

Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 brings strong hardware encryption to the USB flash drive

With the Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2, Kingston is expanding its portfolio of secure flash storage solutions. The USB flash drive uses XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption, which is implemented directly in the device. This automatically encrypts sensitive data without the need for additional programs or manual steps.

The encryption meets the requirements of FIPS-197 certification, an internationally recognized standard for cryptographic security. This certification plays a particularly important role in the corporate environment or for public authorities when confidential data needs to be transported or archived.

In addition to encryption, Kingston has integrated further security mechanisms. The stick’s firmware is digitally signed and thus protects against so-called BadUSB attacks, in which manipulated USB devices can infiltrate malicious code. In addition, integrated protection against brute force attacks ensures that access is blocked after ten incorrect password entries. If the administrator password is also entered incorrectly ten times, the stick deletes its contents cryptographically.

Kingston also focuses on flexibility when it comes to password management. Users can choose between two variants:

  • Complex password mode: 6 to 16 characters with different character sets
  • Passphrase mode: 10 to 64 characters, such as sentences, word lists or PIN combinations

Administrators can also reset user passwords if access is lost. This is particularly helpful in companies or teams where several people need access to encrypted data.

Focus on security features and suitability for everyday use

In addition to the security functions, the Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 has also been optimized for everyday use. The stick comes in a robust metal housing in space gray, which also has an anti-fingerprint coating. This reduces visible fingerprints and protects the surface from scratches.

Another practical function is the integrated virtual keyboard, which can be used when entering passwords. It protects against keyloggers or screen loggers that could try to spy out passwords. In addition, an “eye” symbol can be used to briefly visualize the password entered in order to avoid typing errors.

The stick also offers solid technical performance. According to the manufacturer, the storage device achieves read speeds of up to 145 MB/s and write speeds of up to 115 MB/s via USB 3.2 Gen 1. This makes it suitable for both large files and regular backups.

The USB stick is compatible with Windows 11 and current macOS versions and does not require any additional software to be installed. This means that encrypted data can also be easily exchanged between different systems.

The Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 is available in several storage sizes:

Capacity Model
32 GB IKLP50G2/32GB
64 GB IKLP50G2/64GB
128 GB IKLP50G2/128GB
256 GB IKLP50G2/256GB

Conclusion

The Kingston IronKey Locker+ 50 G2 is aimed at users who require portable storage solutions with high data security. With XTS-AES 256-bit hardware encryption, protection against BadUSB attacks and multiple password options, the USB flash drive combines enterprise-level security features with ease of use. The memory is available in capacities from 32 to 256 GB and comes with a 5-year warranty. Official prices vary depending on retailer and memory size.
