KontrolFreek is now part of the SteelSeries family

SteelSeries continues to strengthen its position in the market. Now the company has taken over the KontrolFreek brand. In the spring, SteelSeries had already taken over A-Volute, now comes the second major acquisition with KontrolFreek.

Ahead in controller accessories

With the purchase of KontrolFreek, SteelSeries is looking to strengthen its presence in the console gaming market. KontrolFreek is a brand of high-performance controller accessories. In doing so, the company develops thumbsticks, precision rings, performance grips, gaming cables and other high-quality products for Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch. KontrolFreek is already known worldwide for its performance gaming gear, and SteelSeries is taking advantage of that.

Connecting Visions

SteelSeries acquired the KontrolFreek brand because the visions of the two companies fit well together. The KontrolFreek team’s expertise in particular is expected to drive SteelSeries’ accessories and controllers business forward. Of course, KontrolFreek’s community also contributed to the purchase of the brand. The community already includes more than 4 million players, which speaks for the good quality of KontrolFreek’s products.

KontrolFreek sees the purchase as a milestone that will take both brands to the next level. SteelSeries CEO Ehtisham Rabbani is also enthusiastic about the acquisition. The goal is to maximize the company’s capabilities. Console gamers should have the best products and thus a memorable gaming experience. Through the knowledge and awareness of KontrolFreek, new opportunities will be created for SteelSeries. This is to inspire gamers all over the world. The company finds the current development exciting, as the gaming world no longer runs on just one platform. Gamers today use multiple platforms, not just a computer or a console, but both. With the acquisition of KontrolFreek, SteelSeries now also wants to expand and constantly improve its offering for gamers. So it remains exciting how these two companies complement each other and what comes next.

Second acquisition in 2020 for SteelSeries

The purchase is not SteelSeries’ first this year. In April 2020, the company acquired A-Volute, the largest manufacturer of 3D sound solutions. A-Volute has developed Nahimic, this is a software solution used by the big players. The software is used by MSI, Gigabyte and Dell, among others. With the purchase of A-Volute, SteelSeries is betting on better audio solutions. This means that SteelSeries can expect great progress in two areas.
