A new hands-on video of what appears to be a brand-new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is causing a stir: For the first time, Samsung’s next foldable flagship can be seen turned on in the video—and the footage suggests a nearly crease-free display.
Leaker Shows Device from All Angles
The video, which appeared on Weibo via the Chinese leaker Setsuna Digital, shows what is believed to be a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra that, unlike previous dummy leaks, appears to be powered on and fully functional. The footage clearly focuses on the display’s fold line.

Compared to the current Galaxy Z Fold 7, there’s practically no indentation visible anymore. Only from certain angles can a very slight edge still be detected, which is unlikely to be visible or noticeable in everyday use—comparable to the level recently achieved by the Oppo Find N6.
The standard Fold 8 is also expected to follow suit
It’s not just the Ultra variant that appears to benefit from the improved folding technology: According to leaker Ice Universe, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also expected to feature a similarly crease-free design. The reason for this is a newly developed hinge that allows Samsung to significantly reduce the visible crease in the Flex Display. Earlier reports from South Korea even suggested that, thanks to thicker UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) material, the standard model could potentially manage creasing even better than the Ultra version.
New Hinge with Potential Compromises
However, Ice Universe recently hinted that the new hinge design could also come with potential drawbacks. It also remains to be seen how stable the reduced crease will remain over a longer period of use: Even on the Oppo Find N6 mentioned earlier, visible signs of wear are already appearing at the fold after a few months of intensive use.
Competitive Pressure from Apple’s Foldable
Developments are also likely to remain exciting in light of Apple’s first foldable iPhone. According to recent leaks, Apple plans to position its foldable in the premium ultra-class and will likely have to compete directly with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 models. Samsung is also working on a generational technological leap for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, which points to a particularly ambitious Galaxy Z lineup this year.
