Leica is downsizing its home cinema portfolio and presenting the Cine Compact 1, a significantly more compact and affordable laser projector. The new model is aimed at users looking for high-quality 4K projection, modern smart TV functions and gaming features in a more flexible format. Despite the reduced size, the technical features remain at a premium level and adopt key features from the larger Cine Play 1.

  • Triple RGB laser with 4K resolution (3,840 × 2,160 pixels)
  • Up to 240 Hz in gaming mode with 2K resolution
  • HDR support including Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG
  • 30% smaller and over 50% cheaper than the larger model

Leica Cine Compact 1 uses a smaller design with almost the same image quality

With the Cine Compact 1, Leica is pursuing a clear approach: premium home cinema technology should become more accessible and flexible. The new projector is around 30 percent smaller and around 2 kilograms lighter than the Cine Play 1, making it easier to integrate into different living environments. Of particular interest is the significantly reduced entry-level price, which brings the device to a new target group.

Inside, a triple RGB laser system continues to work, ensuring high color fidelity and broad color space coverage in the BT.2020 standard. In combination with a pico PMD panel, a 4K resolution with 3,840 × 2,160 pixels at 60 Hz is achieved. The Cine Compact 1 thus remains clearly positioned in the premium segment, even if it is positioned below the larger model.

The technical implementation seems plausible, as more compact laser projectors are increasingly relying on more efficient lighting systems and smaller optical units. The combination of RGB laser light and modern panel technology is already established in comparable high-end devices and is transferred here into a more compact housing.

Cine Compact 1 combines gaming mode, smart TV and flexible projection

A key feature of the new projector is its versatility. In addition to classic home cinema, the Cine Compact 1 also supports gaming applications with a frame rate of up to 240 Hz at 2K resolution. The specified latency of around 20 milliseconds is realistic for a projector in this class and also makes the device interesting for fast-paced games.

For movies and series, the projector supports modern HDR standards such as Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG. This allows high-contrast content with high dynamics to be displayed. In addition, the complete BT.2020 color space coverage enables particularly intense color reproduction, which is particularly visible in high-quality film productions.

Flexibility in everyday use has also been extended. Thanks to a 360-degree rotatable stand, the Cine Compact 1 can be positioned almost anywhere. An integrated 1.0-1.3 zoom lens, autofocus and automatic keystone correction make set-up much easier. The system is complemented by two integrated 10-watt stereo speakers, allowing a basic home cinema experience even without an external audio system.

Streaming services can be used directly via Wi-Fi 6 and the VIDAA Smart TV interface without having to connect additional devices. This clearly positions the projector as an all-in-one solution for modern entertainment setups.

Conclusion

The Leica Cine Compact 1 shows that high-end projection does not necessarily have to be large and expensive. With its reduced size, improved price-performance ratio and continued strong technical features, the device offers an interesting alternative in the premium segment. The combination of 4K laser technology, gaming mode and smart TV functions makes it particularly versatile. The market launch is planned for June 18, 2026, with a price of EUR 1,645, which is significantly lower than the larger Cine Play 1.
