Leica Q3 Monochrom: Black and white photography in its purest form

With the new Leica Q3 Monochrom, the German premium manufacturer presents a camera that is uncompromisingly designed for black-and-white images – with impressive image quality. The new edition of the Q series deliberately dispenses with color filters and thus continues the tradition of the legendary Leica monochrome models.

  • 60 MP full-frame sensor without color filter with Triple Resolution Technology
  • ISO range from 100 to 200,000, 8K video recording
  • Integrated Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens
  • IP52-certified housing with revised operating concept

Technology for maximum image depth

At the heart of the Leica Q3 Monochrom is a specially developed 60-megapixel sensor that reacts exclusively to brightness information. This renunciation of color information ensures an extraordinary level of detail, the finest tonal gradations and an impressive interplay of light and shadow. Thanks to Triple Resolution Technology, photographers can switch between 60, 36 and 18 MP as required – without any loss of quality.

The fast Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. lens delivers razor-sharp, noise-free images, even in low light. With a close focusing distance of 17 cm and integrated macro mode, the camera is also suitable for detailed shots or creative perspectives. The video-capable rear supports recordings up to 8K, opening up new scope for filmmakers.

Puristic design and intuitive operation

Visually, the Q3 Monochrom remains true to the minimalist design language of the Q series, but consistently dispenses with the striking red Leica logo. The matt black metal housing and the finely structured leather coating emphasize the monochrome character of the model. Engravings such as the “Monochrom” lettering are kept discreetly in gray.

The revised operating concept separates photo and video functions visually and in color, resulting in particularly intuitive navigation. The 5.76-megapixel OLED viewfinder offers a razor-sharp preview, while the tilting touch display allows flexible shooting angles.

With Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB-C and micro HDMI, the Q3 Monochrom is ideally prepared for modern workflows. Images can be transferred quickly and securely via the Leica FOTOS app. Leica is also introducing Content Credentials for the first time with this model – digital signatures that document image origin and editing in a tamper-proof manner.

Versatile, expandable and robustly built

In addition to its weather protection to IP52 standard, the camera impresses with its solid workmanship “Made in Germany”. New accessories, including a wireless charging handle, various carrying straps and an optional red filter for greater contrast, are being released to coincide with the market launch.

Thanks to the digital zoom from 28 to 90 mm, the Q3 Monochrom remains flexible in practice without losing its clear focus on high-quality black and white photography.

Conclusion

The Leica Q3 Monochrom brings the purism of black and white photography into the present and combines classic craftsmanship with modern technology. Its special sensor, intuitive operation and uncluttered design make it a tool for photographers who consciously forgo color and seek maximum expressiveness in grayscale. The camera will be available from 20 November 2025 in the Leica Store, online store and from authorized dealers. The price is 6,750 euros including VAT.
