Lenovo: New convertible “IdeaPad Flex 3i Chromebook” unveiled

With the new convertible IdeaPad Flex 3i Chromebook, Lenovo primarily targets schools that are looking for inexpensive devices for students. The device class has especially benefited from the pandemic digitalization.

15.6-inch touchscreen

The convertibles, which have been procured by many schools as part of the initial lockdown, score high marks for their large displays, which can be operated both by keyboard and directly by hand. In addition to the flexibility, the price of this device class is usually quite low. Lenovo’s new device is also a classic convertible in this sense. The core of the foldable device is a 15.6-inch touchscreen with Full HD resolution.

The display gets up to 300 nits bright, but – unlike many other convertible displays – it cannot be operated via stylus. This could mean didactic problems especially for lower grades in schools. However, the device is very well equipped with a webcam, which has a resolution of 720 pixels and is indispensable for video conferencing.

Multiple processors are available

The device is also equipped with a battery, which is supposed to provide up to ten hours of power. Meanwhile, it is optionally powered by an Intel Pentium N6000 or a Celeron N4500. The selected processor is supported by either four or eight GB of RAM. In addition, there is an internal memory of 32, 64 or 128 GB. The convertible’s features are rounded off by two USB Type-A ports, a USB-C port, a microSD reader, an HDMI output and an audio jack.

Prices and availability

The convertible is expected to be available starting in May. The starting price is around 400 US dollars.
