Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3 with 90 Hz OLED panel unveiled

The T14s has been the top model of Lenovo’s T series since its launch last year. At MWC 2022, the manufacturer has now presented a new edition with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3, which has a new design thanks to a new 16:10 display including an OLED panel with a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3: Features and details

The most exciting innovation of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3 is found in the display, because in contrast to the second generation, the manufacturer now relies on a panel in 16:10 format for the slim notebook. There are three resolution variants to choose from: One with WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200 pixels), which replaces the previous Full HD panel of the second generation.

New on the other hand is the variant with 2.2K resolution (2,240 x 1,400 pixels), which however has a rather weak maximum brightness of 300 cd/m². The 2.8K display, which comes with an OLED panel and a brightness of 400 cd/m², is much more interesting.

It is the first OLED in a ThinkPad of the T-series and also relies on a frame rate of 90 Hz – also a novelty in the ThinkPad. Due to the new 16:10 format, Lenovo’s ThinkPad T14s G3 also relies on a new case, where the display edges are much narrower than in the predecessor. However, the keyboard has also been reduced in size to save space, whereby the keys in the right third in particular have shrunk in size.

Intel Alder Lake or AMD Ryzen 6000U

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3 offers a choice between current 12th generation Intel CPUs (Alder Lake) or the AMD Ryzen 6000U series in terms of the processor. Based on the spec sheet, which states a permanent power limit of 19 watts, the Intel chips are likely to be Alder-Lake-U and also Alder-Lake-P.

Up to 32 GB of soldered LPDDR5 memory is offered for the working memory. This stands out with AMD due to a faster clock rate: LPDDR5-4800 at Intel and LPDDR5-6400 at AMD are offered. A PCIe Gen 4 SSD with up to 2 TB of storage is provided as data storage. The graphics processing is done internally via Intel Iris Xe or AMD Radeon 600M.

The T14s G3 has a wide range of ports: 2x USB C (T14s G3 Intel: 2x Thunderbolt 4 / T14s G3 AMD: 1x USB 4.0, 1x USB 3.2), 2x USB A 3.2 Gen1, 1x HDMI 2.0b and 3.5mm jack are available. In terms of connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 4G LTE CAT 16, 5G CAT 20 and optional NFC are offered.

Interestingly, the Intel model is slightly lighter, but larger. It measures 317.5 x 226.9 x 16.6 mm and weighs 1.22 kg. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3 with AMD CPU, on the other hand, weighs 1.29 kg and measures 317.5 x 226.9 x 15.85 mm.

Prices and availability

The notebook is offered in two case variants: Carbon/Magnesium in black and aluminum in gray. The price starts at 1,599 euros (plus VAT), which applies to both the Intel and the AMD model.

However, there are differences in availability. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G3 with an AMD CPU will be available as early as May 2022, while the Intel counterpart will be available one month later, in June 2022.
