Lenovo ThinkPad X13s: Fanless notebook with long battery life introduced

With the “Lenovo ThinkPad x Snapdragon” notebook Lenovo ThinkPad X13s, the manufacturer presented a competitor to the MacBook Air at MWC 2022. The fanless notebook comes with an ARM processor from Qualcomm, weighs just under 1 kilogram and has a battery life of almost 30 hours.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s was developed in close cooperation with Qualcomm and Microsoft and marks the first member of the ThinkPad family to be equipped with an ARM processor. Under the label “Lenovo ThinkPad x Snapdragon”, they introduced the new fanless notebook that relies on a Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 chip.

The 13.3-inch laptop with a height of 13.4 mm is made of magnesium and weighs only 1.06 kilograms. With its equally high-quality and compact design, it is primarily aimed at business customers who need a portable notebook.

Depending on the configuration, a viewing-angle stable IPS panel in 16:10 format is offered with a WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200 pixels) and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. A capacitive touchscreen or Eyesafe blue light filtering is also available on request.

At the same time, the third-generation Snapdragon 8cx is said to be around 85 percent faster than the previous generation. At the same time, up to 32 GB of LPDDR4X memory can be installed with a clock speed of 4,266 MHz, while an optional integrated 5G mmWave is available for mobile Internet connectivity.

Long Battery Life

Although the ThinkPad X13s’ battery capacity of 49.5 Wh is quite low on paper, the laptop is said to be a real endurance runner. According to the manufacturer, the notebook lasts up to 29 hours due to the frugal ARM technology.

Due to the compact size, the notebook’s connectivity has been reduced. Only two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and one 3.5 mm jack are available. Other technical features include a PCIe-SSD with 1 TB capacity, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, a chiclet keyboard with LED backlight and Dolby Audio speakers with three integrated microphones. A 5 megapixel webcam including IR technology for face recognition rounds off the features. Meanwhile, the graphics is realized by the Adreno GPU integrated in the Snapdragon chip.

Price and availability

The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s should be available in stores in May 2022. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 1,399 Euros, but taxes are added here.
